Because of the Great Recession...the social safety net that Clinton tore up...will have to be rebuilt...
Hopefully without the defects of the 1970's..."Welfare Wonderland"... We know that if you pay people not to work, or to "have babies"...a lot of people will decide not to work and get pregnant instead... On the other hand some people simply can not work...or it would be unproductive and uneconomic to force them to work... Some program must be developed for these people... Perhaps maintainence of parks and public places.
The public sector health care plan will "rationalize" the US economy and get American companies on a level playing field with companies in the rest of the world... Single Payer, like everyone else has, would be better...but the "public option" will do for now...
Finally, Americans need to be told the truth about the structural trade deficit...which is unsustainable. The silence about this is deafening ... The usual mantra about how "great" and "productive" American workers are simply won't cut it...we need the truth about how the trade deficit resolves itself...and what America will look like in 20 years...if it doesn't...
In short...without a productive economy...a sustainable post-bubble economy...
We will be getting a Welfare State on Steroids within ten years...and probably sooner if the economic elites don't come clean soon...
