There are a lot of fat people in NJ...and there was probably a big anti-Goldman Sachs vote too!
But the governors races were all about local issues...like taxes...
Most people know that their states are bankrupt...and they can't deficit spend... They also know that most Democratic governors are the stooges of the public empolyees unions...
So by voting in a Republican these off year election voters-who tend to be older and own property-were in effect hoping to innoculate themselves from big property tax hikes to meet public employee wage, pension and benefit demands... But you won't hear this mentioned in the major media for some reason...
Note well...in Virginia and in NJ exit polls said that voters still consider health care reform to be a major issue...and they want it solved...now.
So these governors races were really about local taxes...not about Obama or Health Care...
If Democrats mis-interpret these results...like the major media are doing even now...they will lose big...for real ...in 2010...
Without a strong public option...Democrats are toast in 2010...
I support single payer...but I would have voted for a Republican Governor yesterday...just to protect my property tax bill from the public sector unions...
But alas, that is not the story being reported in the media.
