This could result in urban warfare of the worst kind...quasi-civil war style... Urban Chaos could result...the US and the Green Zoners are not real popular in Iraq or in Baghdad.
And SOME KIND of acceptance by the population seems to be necessary for something like this "crack down" to work.
All that seems to be happening is now the "government" is joining the anarchy!
Of course there is the possibility that it will all be window dressing...check points, smiling and waving at cars...and very little confrontation with "bad guys."
At this point the ball is in the New Government's court to show that they truly are a government...and not just a construct of the American Occupation...with new uniforms and Humvees.
The photo-ops are great...especailly for the Americans...but the proof is in the performance of the government in the field...
And right now...very few of the new Iraqi cabinet would dare step outside the Green Zone...where they are truly "sovreign"...next to the American Embassy.
