The much touted "War Council" that meets at Camp David this week is charged with turning around the dismal situation in Iraq...
And the first thing on the agenda seems to be THE BATTLE OF BAGHDAD, PART TWO.
Apparently, after three years of occupation someone has noticed that Baghdad is in chaos; and the "new government" can't even leave the "green zone."
But will "more US troops" in Baghdad...going neighborhood to neighborhood, house-to-house kicking in doors really change hearts and minds in Iraq?
The grim facts are the the American military presence in Iraq is considered by most Iraqis to be a Zionist Army of Occupation...and the "new government" a bunch of Quisling opportunists and collaborators.
Add to that more kicking in of doors...home invasions...and likely killings of innocent civilians...and well, you have a problem.
The problem is the occupation and the US presence on the streets of a major Muslim nation. Throw in some bombings, and killing of civilians by out of control Humvees...and things get out of control really fast.
Very likely the best thing for Iraq would be to withdraw the American occupation...and let local areas and neighborhoods govern themselves for a while...then after a while allow these regions to determine which national leadership is legitimate enough to venture outside the Green Zone on it's own dime.
Saddly, this notion that any viable Iraqi government will be pro-American and pro-Israeli occupation of the West Bank...is a pipe dream...
But at the so-called "War Council" to be held this week: THAT PIPE DREAM CONTINUES....
Bring on the Battle of Baghdad, Part Two... Osama's jihadis will love it...
Because it's a formula for chaos and mayhem in a confused urban environment...
And alas, probably an eventual Vietnam style heliocopter escape from the rooftops of the Green Zone...by the occupation and it's percieved collaborators. A Vietnam style ending seems to get closer everyday.
What Dubya and the Neocons haven't figured out is that they are so out of touch with reality, and so unpopular world-wide, that anything they do will be doomed to failure...
And that itself is a little bit scary...
Postscript: Hmmmm....will the next Battle of Baghdad included more "shock and awe" like in the first Battle of Baghdad...?
