DO WE REALLY UNDERSTAND ZARQAWI...?

The media coverage on Zarqawi has described him as a mad man who liked to kill...

But, is this the Sunni view of the situation in Iraq...or the Shia view?

All the Shias hated Zarqawi to be sure.

And the US has backed the new Shia government in Iraq...

But, no effort has been made to understand the Sunni Arab side of the Iraq argument.

All we know is that Saddam was Sunni. Sunnis are all evil. And Zarqawi was a Sunni.

Case Closed.

But what of the Shia death squads that are supported by the new government and the US by implication?

My hunch is that no settlement will occur in Iraq until the US abandons the Evil Sunni, Nice Shia mindset that is behind everything we've seen in Iraq these days.

Does any American, in or out of government, really know what the "deal" is between the Iraqi Sunnis and Shia...?

Why they hate each other so much?

And, what about this so-called "criminal element" in Iraq, with all the kidnappings and beheadings...what's that all about?

Clearly, we're not in Kansas anymore...or Texas.

Does any American really understand any of this...? The history? Where it all came from? ...I don't?

None of it makes any sense...in fact nothing about Iraq makes sense anymore...

DO WE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THEIR ISLAMIC CULTURE...

...except how to kill them?

But what if it's not about "good and evil"...?

What if it's about the History of Islam from the 7th Century to the present?

Which none of us in America understand...or care to?

Do we really understand Zarqawi, or any of these people we are fighting and killing?

I don't think so.
