Just a few days ago, the Wall Street Journal was lashing at Mr. Kerry
for having a "shadow foreign policy," BEFORE BEING ELECTED PRESIDENT!
Now, the Journal says that since Kerry COULD BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT;
He needs to elaborate MORE on how he will handle Spain, Europe and
Foreign Policy in general!
Go Figure! Make up your mind over there at the WSJ!
Anyway;
What the Spanish election REALLY shows is that it's political suicide
to follow a policy that 90% of the electorate oppose!
AND THAT'S ALL!
The Spanish electorate realized that Iraq was not the real terror
threat, and that by going into Iraq the entire region would become
destabilized on very unpredictable ways.
And, of course, the Spanish people were absolutely right!
DUBYA IS NOW ESSENTIALLY CLUELESS ABOUT "WHAT NEXT" IN IRAQ!
IT'S ALL AD HOC, AND KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED! HARDLY THE STUFF OF
SO-CALLED LEADERSHIP!
Exactly who came up with this odd idea that Dubya is a "great leader"
has me baffled.
I mean this guy can barely bark out simple slogans, and perhaps read
an occasional paragraph that someone else writes for him.
Dubya has been an intellectual vacuum at nearly every level. If this
is the stuff of "Global Leadership," then I'm seriously missing
something.
And a lot of people in Euroland seem to see it my way.
THAT'S WHY EUROPE AND MOST OF THE WORLD IS TURNING AWAY FROM THE
DUBYA AND THE NEOCONS!
IT'S NOT ANTI-AMERICANISM, IT'S ANTI-DUBYAISM! ANTI-NEOCONISM!
But, to be more constructive, if Kerry wants to articulate a policy
that will pass muster at the WSJ, he should simply say;
IF I AM PRESIDENT, AMERICA WILL PARTNER WITH THE WORLD AGAINST
TERRORISM.
AND, WE WILL SEEK TO RESOLVE GLOBAL PROBLEMS BY NEGOTIATION FIRST,
AND MILITARY FORCE LAST.
PREEMPTIVE FORCE IS NOT A JUSTIFICATION FOR "OPTIONAL WAR."
(Dubya shares Sharon's notion that the only Good Muslim is a Dead
Muslim, and that is really at the core of the whole geo-political
mess, even if we can't, or won't, admit that in public.)
INDEED, SOLVE THE ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN DISPUTE AND YOU WILL SOLVE 90%
OF WHAT AILS THE MIDDLE EAST.
YET, DUBYA AND THE AMERICAN MEDIA ARE TREATING SHARON'S CURRENT "FUN
AND GAMES" IN GAZA AND THE WEST BANK "AS IF" THEY ARE TOTALLY
SEPERATED FROM THE LARGER PROBLEM OF GLOBAL TERROR.
If Kerry were courageous he would say:
US HEALTH CARE COSTS AND AN INTERNATIONALLY ENFORCED WEST BANK PEACE
ARE GOING TO BE "JOB ONE" OF MY ADMINISTRATION IN THE FIRST HUNDRED
DAYS!
Then, the Journal's premonition of a Kerry Presidency would be
prophetic indeed!
Alas, leaving Dubya, the NeoCons, that other geo-political clown,
Berlusconi, on the scrap heap of history.
Postscript: It would be "nice" if the Journal tried to be part of
the solution instead of becoming part of the problem with it's recent
sniping and bitterness about the sad state of American foreign policy.
