For some reason Kerry refuses to offer his supporters the "red meat"
that they GREATLY want to hear. But why?
I noted here that Kerry should be caustic, not clever or casual, with
Bush.
He did that in the first debate, Bush got flustered, AND KERRY
WON THAT DEBATE.
The last two debates were in the Al Gore "love-fest" style, and that
plays right into Dubya strong suit as "likeable."
Is Kerry trying to capture Dubya's "Base?" Sorry, that just ain't
going to happen. But, you can lose your own base!
The America people are hurt and hurting, yet the Republicat political
elites offer nothing but OLD SCHOOL banter, and tepid solutions.
While Dubya sees things in black and white;
Kerry is the master of the many shades of gray. Indeed, Kerry has
become the GREAT GRAY EMINENCE in this election; and a total bore by
the way!
He's going to give me a "Senator's Health Care Plan?" OK. Great do I
get a Senator's pay to pay for it! Oh Pleaseeee......
The Kerry Health Care Plan would delight, and even confuse, RUBE
GOLDBERG!
WHY NOT JUST SAY: I'M GOING TO COVER ALL AMERICANS! NO ONE WILL BE
UNINSURED! WE'LL FIND A WAY. DON'T WORRY. BE HAPPY! WE CAN DO IT!
At this period in the campaign just go with the BIG IDEAS, and let
the wonks do the "wonking," like Dubya does!
I watched the debate with a Democratic "debate watch" party, at a
major university, in a local bar/club. The audience was young and
really jazzed, probably splited 50-50 between "town and gown,"
But alas, Kerry gave them NOTHING to get excited about. Nothing to
cheer for.
When Kerry would end his seemingly interminable sentences with some
half assed "zinger," everyone cheered.
But mostly, Kerry spent the evening trying to show that he was
really "Bush-Lite!" (Well, that's better than Coors lite, I suppose!)
So, everyone just sat there kinda "fish-eyed."
Why doesn't he attack? Why no red meat? Why no caustic zingers?
Kerry couldn't find Dubya's "jugular vein" if you let him use both
hands!
Kerry is way too caught up in policy details, and is ignoring
the "fun part" of an election--the fist fights! The ass kicking.
Dubya's folks are hearing what they came to hear.
It's OUR TITANIC STRUGGLE---between good and evil. Bad Guys and Good
Guys. (in white hats, I suppose) It's all Black and White.
The Bushies believe that Satan is really out there and he's trying to
kill them!
THEY DON'T NEED A "WHITE PAPER" ON THE POLICY IMPLICATIONS OF THAT!
IT MAY ALREADY BE TOO LATE FOR KERRY;
BUT UNLESS HE OFFERS SOME REAL RED MEAT TO HIS BASE; MOST OF THEM
WILL JUST STAY HOME ON ELECTION DAY.
There is even some indictation that the Black Vote is ALREADY
responding better to Bush's "Sunday School" lectures, hokey as they
are;
Than to Kerry's many shades of gray, nuanced policy wonkings!
KERRY AND HIS "CAMPAIGN BY COMMITTEE" JUST DOESN'T GET IT. HE'S
HANGING OUT WITH TOO MANY INTELLECTUALLY CONSTIPATED LIBERAL EGG-
HEADS!
KERRY WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER OFF WITH THE "KARL ROVE" APPROACH.
ROVE JUST FEEDS DUBYA THE RED MEAT THAT HIS BASE WANTS, AND THEN THEY
HOPE THAT EVERYONE ELSE WILL "JOIN THE FUN."
ALAS, THE DEMOCRATS WERE "WONKED OUT" IN 2000---
AND NOW AGAIN IN 2004!
Kinda sad really.........
