In the Ukraine, the issue of red states and blue states has taken an ominous turn.
The urban eductated classes want one candidate, and the Ukrainian "bubbas" want someone else.
Here's the problem: The educated urban elite is NEVER going to be in the majority, IN UKRAINE OR IN AMERICA!
Additionally, there is an inherent flaw in the democratic notion that 51% can have the right to rule 49%, especially if the 49% consider themselves to be "enlightened" and "elite."
To some, this is the inherent flaw in PRESIDENTIAL DEMOCRACY.
That's why a parlimentary system is fairer for the minority parties. Under a parlimentary system, the minority always has a place at the table.
Under a US or Ukrainian system 51% can rule everything; without consulting the minority 49%. Is that fair? And in the case of Ukraine, is it dangerous?
In the US we have a tradition of minorities accepting the rule of 51%. In countries that have less experience with democracy, it could be a problem.
HERE'S MY FEAR--- WHAT IF THE UKRAINE HAS ANOTHER ELECTION----AND THE RESULT IS THE SAME!
THE UKRAINIAN "BUBBAS" WIN AGAIN!
THIS IS VERY VERY POSSIBLE, PERHAPS LIKELY!
AND THE ROLE OF RUSSIA IN UKRAINIAN AFFAIRS HAS A GREAT CONSTITUANCY FROM THE COLD WAR DAYS.
THERE ARE "VESTED INTERESTS" IN THE UKRAINE THAT ARE SIMILAR TO THE
VESTED INTERESTS IN US.
WHAT'S REALLY AT STAKE IS SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN CALLED INTO QUESTION IN THE US AND IN THE UKRAINE OF LATE.
NAMELY: THE RIGHT OF THE "STUPID" TO RULE THE SELF-PROCLAIMED "ENLIGHTENED URBAN FEW!"
DENY IT IF YOU WILL.....but you know that there is more than a grain of truth to this statement.
So, what could be called into question if Ukraine "implodes" is the viablity of majority rule GLOBALLY!!
It's really a question of "dumbacracy" verus the "enlightened elites."
