HOW TO WRITE A COLUMN

1. Try to tell the real truth, and avoid spin as much as possible.

2. If you have a"hidden agenda" or bias, reveal it as soon as possible. Honesty is the best policy.

3. Show people. Don't tell them.

4. Assume your reader is as intelligent as you are.

5. Avoid quotes from folks pushing an agenda....or at least have the decency explain their agenda, so no one will think they are really unbias commentators.

6. Read more books, less newspapers.

7. Assume everyone is lying especially politicians and people with a monetary interest in the outcomes.

8. Keep it short and simple. Thesis, Support, Conculsion. Keep it snappy and strive for simple eloquence....always the best kind. Avoid useless padding.

9. Dont just repeat conventional wisdom. Mob Thinking is rampant in editorial circles these days. Everyone is after the same idea. Boring!

10. Remember no body reads or cares what you write anyway. So none of it matters in the long run....you're just filling "white space" on the page, so your boss can sell advertising.
