IN DEFENSE OF NYTs DAVID BROOKS:
Great Job from this morning's posters at the NYT readers forums! This mornings postings are well thought out, carefully written, insightful, and best of all true. A refreshing change from the sad babel of the demented Neocons sometimes found on the NYT boards!
Brooks bashing is great fun! Keep up the good work....
But Brooks is really that rare bird in American Politics--A CONSERVATIVE INTELLECTUAL. (True, some might say, pseudo-intellectual conservative, and some pseudo-conservative intellectual)
Most conservatives don't even try to rationalize their postions, because they can't. For most conservatives IT'S ALL ABOUT ME! MY MONEY. MY RELIGION. MY TAXES. MY UNINFORMED "BELIEFS" AND PREJUDICES. MY KOOKY CONSPIRACY THEORIES.
So, the pharse "conservative intellectual" is really an oxymoron.
But Brooks at least makes an attempt to prove that all conservatives are not morons, and conversely that all morons are not conservatives! And, it's the thought that counts.
True, most of what he writes is pure drivel, and the rest is mostly unforgivable twaddle.
But, we should all praise him for his efforts! At least, he tries to "play in our sandbox!"
And liberals should rejoice! If Brooks is the best they can throw at us......?
