The NYTimes story in the title link makes Iraq look like it's preparing to be invaded! And not on the eve of its much touted "election."
Curfews! Roads Blocked! Airport closed! All driving of cars banned! Check Points! Jets flying overhead! Military vehicles racing about! Blast Barriers! Barbed Wire!

Wouldn't it have been better to have A LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE OF ALL PARTIES IN INTEREST FIRST!
AND, I MEAN "ALL PARTIES" ----INCLUDING THE ONE'S THAT DUBYA & CO WANTED TO BANISH INTO THE POLITICAL WILDERNESS AND WHO ARE NOW THE ONES CAUSING THE "INSURGENCY."
ALSO NOT TO STACK THE DECK IN FAVOR OF THE US BACKED "EXILE GROUPS," AND OTHER FOLKS LIKE "CURVE BALL," WHO DUPED DUBYA WITH FALSE INTELLIGENCE ABOUT SADDAM?
Somehow, Dubya seems to be putting the cart before the camel in Iraq...... During the American Revolution our LEADERSHIP did the ground work first.....then the people were asked to vote on it.
The description of Iraq on the Eve of the Election reads like it's on the Eve of Destruction!
If I were an Iraqi in Baghdad, I'd spend Sunday in my basement, under a solid table.....just in case....
