Let's hope that Friedman, in the Sunday NYTimes is just a little bit right about the Baghdad Spring....
But I would hope that we do not go the "INVASION ROUTE" anymore...as this creates a whole new set of problems.
ENCOURAGE DOMESTIC DEMOCRACY IN THE MIDDLE EAST.
BOMB IRAN WITH MUSIC CD's AND AMERICAN MOVIES....BEAM TV INTO THE MIDDLE EAST FREE OF CHARGE.
BUT NO MORE "SHOCK AND AWE."
Would that Chalabi had gone into Iraq at the head of a rebel army, not in the back seat of an American tank!
Also, if Sharon and the Likud would just decided WHAT THEY WANT ON THE WEST BANK....AND ALLOW INTERNATIONAL OBSERVERS...THINGS COULD MOVE MUCH FASTER.
With the Likud still holding out for a Greater Israel on the West Bank....western democracy is going to be a hard sell on the streets of Araby....
