American Job Seekers come in two types:
1. THE UNDER-QUALIFIED;
2. THE OVER-QUALIFIED.
PARADOXICALLY, NEITHER CAN FIND JOBS THESE DAYS!
Now, the under-qualified are encouraged to seek training. Why? Probably so they can become "over-qualified!"
And the over-qualified are forced to "dumb down" their resumes, so as not to "scare people." Or, ominiously, "start their own business......"
The self-employed basically "own their jobs" and that's about it. There's no more to it than that.
Many Jews and Muslims when coming to America, went the "self-employment route," because no one would hire them and/or they couldn't speak the language.
So, to some extent self-employment is really a last resort for many.
Most self-employed folks just "make a living." But at least they are "the master of all they survey," or, at least, all that isn't mortgaged, or subject to a financing agreement.
But, today's "job holders" are really like infants in a stroller when it comes to "job security."
They're just "pushed around" and they have to take it....for fear of becoming one of those: Involuntarily Self-employed Over-qualified folks. See above. Furthermore;
Jobs in America today are either:
1. Very Specialized.
2. Very Unskilled.
Again another paradox: because few real people want the latter, or can qualify for the former. But;
If you are clean and sober, and can type, and show up, more or less, on time, and are willing to work for seven bucks per hour? You can probably get some kind of job in America today.
This of course discriminates greatly against American men....most of whom are slobs-- who can't type!
......and who like to drink a bit, and would never work for seven bucks an hour!
It's a paradox. A most unusual paradox.
Maybe Dubya will teach us a few things about the job situation tonight?
But don't count on it........
