The world meets in "support" of the Palestinians in London today..... But there is a subtle subtext to this meeting. (NB. Israel is absent.)
Essentially, the global community is saying to Sharon and the Israeli ultra-right: WE WANT THIS WEST BANK NONSENSE OVER!
Israel can not and will not be allowed to annex the West Bank.....That is the real message being sent here. In the US the Palestinians are always cast as "the problem" and the Israeli settlers on Palestinian land....only patriots and freedom fighters.
Now with "democracy" breaking out all over the middle east, with doubtful outcomes, Euroland and Asia are forcing the American postition on All Israel, All the Time..... This by the way is not "anti-semetism" it's merely an attempt to inject some reality into the Israel/US mindset.
The best thing that this conference could do is PROVIDE COVER FOR SHARON AGAINST HIS ULTRA-RIGHT.
Sharon must be able to let go of the West Bank without causing chaos in the Israeli ultra-right. This will be difficult, but it is doable. For the next few months we will likely see:
LOVE FOR PALESTINIAN STATEHOOD
and;
TOUGH LOVE FOR GREATER ISRAEL ON THE WEST BANK..........
Perhaps the Neocons will be able to cancel their "inter-generational" war pronounced after 911?
Peace could break out at anytime!
