The notion that the recent attack on Lebanon was just a "political move" to prove that the new government in Israel has earned its "Arab killing" credentials...is a bit nuts...
What seems to be happening is a rejection of Arab and Muslim democratic self-determiniation...on every level.
Hamas was rejected outright by the west and Israel as: "Sorry, wrong choice!"
In Lebanon, the new "anti-Syrian" democracy has elements of Hezbolla...which where then attack by Israel--with the consent of the US and some western nations.
And in Iraq, the new pro-Iranian Shia government is being held back by the US for various reasons...not the least of which is the massacre of Sunnis that is resulting in an ethnic cleansing of parts of Iraq.
The GAZA GAMBIT where Israel essentially bombs any government it doesn't like, no matter how it came to power...is not going to win hearts and minds...and will likely enflame the region even more.
ISRAEL HAS NOW BOMBED HAMAS...WHICH WAS ELECTED BY PALESTINIANS.
ISRAEL HAS NOW BOMBED HEZBOLLA...WHICH WAS ELECTED IN LEBANON.
BUT WILL ISRAEL EVER GET A "PRO-ISRAEL" GOVERNMENT IN AN ARAB STATE THROUGH BOMBING?
I just don't see it....
To get the "Japan-Germany Effect" which both Israel and the US seek in Muslim nations...you simply must massacre very large numbers of people and destroy nearly all the infrastructure...!

IF THE US AND ISRAEL ARE EVER TO CONQUER A MUSLIM NATION AND HAVE AN EFFECTIVE PUPPET GOVERNMENT...TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF THE NATION IS NECESSARY...THIS INCLUDES PEOPLE AND INFRASTRUCTURE.

While Israel may have restored a needed level of internal paranoia...for domestic political purposes.
The Americans are still stuck in Mulsim countries that they conquered at Israels request...with no exit strategy in sight.
The balance of terror may be back in equilibrium for the present...but nothing has changed...and things are probably more dangerous now that before Lebanon was destroyed.
