A record high in the Dow today will not really be a record in terms of value...
The dollar has substantially declined in value since the last record high on the Dow. Gold has nearly doubled and so has oil... So, you could buy a lot more gold and oil per dollar the last time the Dow was at these levels than you could today.
Indeed, even the Euro has come from 87 to nearly 130 on the dollar...
So the talk of a record is really only for those inside the US...
