American is a nation of stores, not factories.
And that is a big change from only a few decades ago.
So far no one has told us how this ends...or if it is sustainable. It was essential however that Wall Street and International Capital beat back the unions and workers of America to maintain their dominance of the Capitalist System.
The problem is that Greed may have thrown out the baby with the bath... At some point the world will demand that the US pay up...but by then the Greedmongers and International Capital will have moved their "operations" to other countries...leaving the US population to figure out what to do next.
The best jobs in America today are in government and health care...the ultimate service industies... Everything else is subject to moving off shore and that includes many high skilled jobs at all levels.
