IT'S TOO POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC POLITICALLY IN THE US TO GO FORWARD...
CLEARLY, THE POSSIBILITY FOR "MASS DEATHS" OF AMERICAN SOLIDERS IN THE HIGHWAYS AND BYWAYS OF BAGHDAD IS TOO GREAT TO BE ALLOWABLE NOW...
MANY COMMANDERS ON THE GROUND SAY THAT THE "AMERICAN MISSION" NOWADAYS IS TO GO OUT AND BE TARGET PRACTICE FOR IRAQIS OF ALL STRIPES...
PUTTING THIS "PLAN" ON STEROIDS IS JUST TOO NUTS TO BE REAL...
Chances are there will be some targeted photo-op "clearings" of those neighborhoods that are easy to do...with a quick pull back before all Hell brakes loose...or some symbolic "turnover"...of control
But a turnover to whom? Give the Kurdish commanders control of a Sunni neighborhood...? Oh Please!
Going into the so called "mixed" areas could unleash all of the anger that Iraqis feel toward Americans from ALL sides...
Simply put, the Iraqi Shia who were stupidly "empowered" by the US invasion and the disasterous "de-Bathhification" program...are not going to share power with anyone...
The Shia and the Kurds are too far gone now to go back to the "Old Iraq" model...
OLD IRAQ IS OVER...DONE...FINISHED...AND IT AIN'T COMING BACK...THAT ENDED WITH SADDAM'S FALL.
THE WESTERN FICTION OF "IRAQ" IS ON THE SCRAP HEAP OF HISTORY.
THE SO CALLED SURGE EITHER WILL NOT HAPPEN...OR, IT WILL BE DONE AS A PHOTO-OP OFFENSIVE...PRIMARILY FOR US CONSUMPTION...
