NASA has become a bit of boondogle...for the US...
NASA was originially part of the Cold War against the Soviets...with a thinly vailed military goal of improving ICBMs...namely missiles with warheads attached...
Since this is no longer a priority...NASA has become sort of a politically correct side show...
Nothing important is going to be done by actually sending a live human into space...
Almost everything can be done by robots or drones now...and remember computers were not as well developed in the 1960s when NASAs mission was defined...
In short...science has moved on...But NASAs "mission" remains trapped in the Cold War 1960's...PRE-COMPUTER...TECHNOLOGY...
NASA is still stuck in the "Christopher Columbus Model" of exploration...
