What Fox and to some extent MSNBC is doing is providing people with entertainment in the form of news and commentary...
Fox is the worse offender... But they discovered this new "news format"...ie Freak-0-News presented as straight reporting...
And there has to be some credit given to AM Hate Radio...which really invented the format for the PM drive time crowd...
