If you visit mono-cultural societies...they seem bored with each other...
Everyone is the same...my grandparents are exactly like your grandparents. Everyone eats the same "ethnic" food... We hate the country next to us because they invaded our homeland in the 1400's...and again in the 1700's.
Likely mono-cultural societies speak the same language...which is only usable for a 500 mile radius from where you live...so you learn English the Universal Language...if you want to break out of your "group"...
This boredom leads the younger people to look to American pop culture...because tiny nations don't have the critical mass to create mass culture...
They Rap in Russian...Break Dance in the streets of Kiev...they go to concerts where all the songs are in English...
So there are two sides to this story... America is tense and edgier than Europe or Asia...but there is a dynamism to mutli-culturalism...that you don't see in Sweden or the Ukraine...or in Egypt or China....
In America all you need is a Cubs or Mets baseball hat to be American... But you can live in France for 30 years and never really "fit in."
