Actually the Republican "Read the Bill" ploy is bogus...yet another bogus bullshit wedge issue from the Party of No...
Bills are written by a specialized group of legal staff who know how laws are written under our system...
Anyone complaining about "reading the bill" likely has never seen a bill up close... The task of reading what was written is divided up between several committees and staff members...
Much of a bill is useless boilerplate...to repeal other old laws that might be changed or to deal with specialized situations like Indian Reservations, Off shore companies and other exotica that is only of interest to those directly effected by it...and yes...they 'read' those parts...
SO BILL WRITING AND READING IS GROUP PROJECT...and YES SOMEONE READS THE BILLS...
Bills are not passed unread...a division of labor is in place to make sure that all the t's are crossed and all the i's doted...
The individual Congress person takes the reports of his/her staff...reads those parts that are most relevant and which may effect their constituents most...and decides on the merits of the bill...as reported.
The Congress person acts like a CEO of a large company where tasks are divided out to trusted and competent people and decisions are made based on that trust... If the CEO had to read every piece of paper and every contract...without the help of the company legal department...NOTHING COULD GET DONE...
So this "read the bill" ploy is really just another Republican bogus wedge issue to confuse and inflame the public...who desperately need health care reform...
Republicans specialize in these wedge issues and big lies...almost everything they say has to be questioned...since they're really not a party that has the best interests of ALL the people in mind...
The real Republican constituency is Wall Street and the Money Elites...and any less informed people they can dupe into voting for them with their bogus wedge issues..
So fear not...the bills are read...
