"I hate Obama. Never mind why. You can accuse me of racism, but it's not true, really. What I hate is that he is a Democrat and I am not. I don't like Democrats, never did.
And I really hate Obama because he has no clear moral failings. He seems like a decent man. Good to his family. Classic American success story. Other Democrats I could always attack for personal failures. But not him. He's done everything right.
But I hate his politics, so I am going to attack the man relentlessly. I will call him a socialist, a re-distributor. I will try to create the illusion of class warfare -- I will call anything that enforces the notion of our progressive tax system being "redistribution of wealth." Do I really think a flat tax will ever be implemented? No,. of course not, and I will drop the fight once Obama is out of office. I will wrap myself in the Constitution and call any progressive policies anti_American. Oh, I know many functions of government are not specified in the Constitution, I see the argument is disingenuous, and I will drop it once he is out of office. Of course I want my Social Security and my Medicare.
I will call anything he ever proposed but failed to get enough support in Congress to pass a "broken promise."
And I will call the Bush wars "Obama's wars." Did I support them before Obama was in office. Yes! Do I support the troop draw-down? Yes! But I will blame Obama and hope people will take their frustration with these wars out on him.
And I will give birthers my lip service. Because I hope it will have traction, despite the fact that I know he was born in Hawaii.
And I get the deficit was there before Obama came along. And I get that it got worse largely because of unemployment benefits paid while we dig ourselves out of the worst economy wince the 1930's. And I see the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy are making things worse. But as long as I can blame Obama, I will.
I hate Obama. And his pragmatism and centrism frustrate me to no end, so I will call him an evil socialist. And no, I don't see his political opponents as offering any better ideas for anything, but at least they are not Barack Obama.
I sure wish we could catch him doing something showing personal failing other than an occasional drag on a cigarette. It would make it easier to justify my hatred.
