Pol Pot was a Cambodian ultra-nationalist...who resented the influence of Chinese and VietNamese in Cambodia...not to mention Westerners and the French... Pol Pot wanted to "restore" the great mythic Cambodian Khmer Empire of 900AD to 1400AD...!
The Chinese and their "cousins" the Vietnamese had a dominant role in business and industry in Cambodia for hundreds of years...(and in other Southeast Asia Nations)....
And many Cambodians resented this "foreign" domination of commerce... Especially since the French where thought to have encouraged even more Chinese to come in a take over much of the commerce in Cambodia...during the colonial period...
This anti-Chinese claim was also make in Indonesia...against the Dutch colonialists...in the 1950's... It was really a problem all over SouthEastern Asia...
What many westerners don't realize is that the Chinese are very very good at business...and some nationalities resent their power in commerce...
There are even a few in the US now...with the rise of Trump...who could become a China basher like Pol Pot...
Of course Americans won't need a "killing field"...we can still wise up and stop the looting of the country by voting solidly Progressive...
