Instead of "Drill Baby Drill"...perhaps some REAL public transportation should be built in America...
Most people only travel in their Metro Area on a daily basis...
And outside of NYC, Chicago and and East Coast...most "public transportation" is used only by the poor...
Have you ever been on a Greyhound bus...? Yeah...sort of like that...!
These are for people who really can't afford a car...!
In Europe and Asia...Public Transportation is well maintained and cheap... The Hong Kong transit system is regional, cheap, clean and very deluxe looking...compare it to the Chicago "L" trains...which are truly pitiful wrecks...
In former Soviet Cities...you can take the subway (Metro they call it) for 10 or 25 cents...to any place in the city...and connections are available to regional trains...
Getting Americans out of cars and into trains and Metros...will take time...but it may be the best answer to the oil, gas and pollution problem long term...
Postscript:
Of course ...we'd all have to get those small "Euro-Refigerators"...and shop for food daily... because carrying $150 worth of groceries in five bags on the subway would be a problem....! Perhaps a grocery delivery service would be needed...? More jobs!
And THAT is really the BIG PROBLEM ...! America was not built for Public Transportation...but rather for the individual car...which alas, could be obsolete soon OR too expensive to own for most people!
