In foreign countries many or most people simply don' have access to ...or can't afford...processed food in packages....
These foods tend to be loaded up with salt, sugars and fats...to make them "taste better." And they cost more.
In most other countries people are constantly exposed to street kiosks and open markets...that sell mostly fresh vegetables and fruits...and the fresh food is cheaper... These markets and small sellers are everywhere...even on the streets and sidewalks. (Apparently its "legal")...
Also most foreigners don't have adequate refrigeration or good transportation...so they tend to buy food on a "just in time" basis...instead of stocking up...and fresh food doesn't store well...
I would like to see cities open up farmers markets and flea markets on vacant city property... This would do two things...
1. It would encourage people to buy cheaper fresh food...and less packaged food...
2. And it would teach people to set up small businesses... The flea market seller...can move to permanent kiosk style selling...and then to a storefront ...and if really hard driving to a chain of stores... You see this story played out in Asia constantly... That's why there are no vacant store fronts in Hong Kong...!
America is the least Capitalist Country I've seen... Everyone still wants a "job with benefits"...! Fat and Sassy...
But...it ain't gonna happen...!
