Hong Kong has the most glitzy shopping malls...and they are filled with shoppers... Every square inch of a building is used...
Even in an older "office type" building...there will be a crowded restaurant on the 3d floor...and you have to walk up the steps to get to it... Apartment buildings are 60 stories high...and they are built in clusters...with small shops and the metro just steps away... Good Soviet Urban Planning lives...?!
Everyone in Hong Kong seems to be young...or if they are old...they are very old and being lead around by a young club hopping fashionista relative.
Americans don't realize the ambition of the Chinese...everyone is a capitalist...or at least a business person... The role of micro-capitalism...markets and market stalls...is unappreciated in the US...
But as jobs disappear....more and more people will be forced into "making their own jobs"...
You see this now all over Asia and Eastern Europe...Americans need to realize that the Era of living wage "jobs with benefits" is over...and its not coming back anytime soon...
