The Pentagon and the War Budget are a massive part of the US economy...mostly in the South...
The strategy is to keep wars going for as long as possible to keep the promotions coming...and to "seem relevant" in an Era where standing armies are as obsolete as sailing ships...
Hence the various "occupations"...mostly in small irrelevant nations where the added US funds make a nice boost to the local economy...as in Afghanistan...
America have given up health care...which everyone else has had for decades...to keep the War Budget well funded... Even as Wall Street was off shoring the REAL ECONOMY to China...
