Listening to Republicans it sounds like we need to revert to the World of "Leave it to Beaver"...or have Sharia Law...!
The real decline in America and its families started with LBJ's war in Vietnam ...which coupled with the Great Society caused the dollar to crash...and for Nixon to 'go off gold' in 1971... Its been all down hill ever since...
First came the Great Inflation (post gold dollar)...this resulted in 20% prime rates under early Reagan... This was the "first oil shock" era...which was falsely blamed on "the Arabs"....when it really was about the dollar going off gold.
The Reagan "miracle" was really the reversion of FED rates to normal...then about 8% which happened in the middle of his term...
Back then the FED was doing its job...the ultra high rates 'saved the dollar'...at least for a while...so rates could go down and the FED-Induced Recession could end under Reagan...
Reagan's actual policies were a disaster...and he left the nation in massive debt...and with a militaristic foreign policy...and worst of all Free Trade...which allowed off shoring and the Cult of the CEO to rule the economy until 2008...
And Reagan's Free Trade legacy allowed Capital to go off shore...removing living wage jobs...and forcing more and more people onto welfare... The Era of Wall Street looting had begun...
With Free Trade ...The Era of the Low Wage Job was upon us...off shoring had started...and the Cult of the CEO was formed...Green Mail and Corporate breakups were rampant...And the Japanese Car flap was big news...
The rise of the "low wage job" forced Clinton to "end welfare"...simply to push Welfare people into the new low wage economy... Because people could live better on welfare ...than by working at MickyDs... THAT HAD TO END...!
With Reagan came the Era of Bubbles...justified by the 401k...which was supposed to supplement corporate pensions...not replace them...!
Basically the Bubble Economy was masking the hollowing out of the US economy for workers...since Reagan... Wages have not risen for ordinary people since 1975...and its only gotten worse...
NET-NET... BOTTOM LINE:
THIS IS NOT ABOUT "MORALS"..."VALUES" OR RELIGION...
ITS ABOUT ECONOMICS...AS YOU WILL SOON FIND OUT IF THE PROGRESSIVE AGENDA IS ABORTED...AND ROMNEY IS ALLOWED TO REVERT TO THE FREE TRADE LOOTING AGENDA..
But my hunch is that Romney if elected...will be MORE PROGRESSIVE than Obama ever could be...simply because the Progressive Agenda is the only way out of the Reagan-Bush-Greenspan-Bernanke Depression...!
The Gun/Abortion issues are always just a side show for professional politicians..
It will not be easy...in fact...it may be impossible to restore the "American Dream"...it may be too late to "move the factories back from China"... In which case...there will need to be a whole new social contract in America...as yet un-discussed...
An America where slave labor in Asia...makes the world go round...
I support defeating Obama...
I think it will be great fun watching Republicans deal with the Depression which they supported and mostly caused...
