Walmart is not welcome in foreign countries...which are still dependent on the mom and pop shop...and the old market stall economy...
These small shops and market stalls provide a lot of employment...its really micro-capitalism...and you see it everywhere...but here in the US...!
America has been completely rolled up by the Big Box Stores...and the Large Retailers... Mom and Pop Shops are almost extinct...except on line with the Bay and AZ...
Most foreigners would be shocked if they saw how Americans buy things...
Foreigners would consider shopping Walmart or going to MickyDs to be a "luxury" or a "treat"....something for the kids on Saturday afternoon.
Its very expensive compared to the "Street Vendor" economy outside... American stores are very modern...and have clean toilets...that is the big deal about MickyDs in foreign cities...especially for women and kids.
Right now the Modern Mall and the American way of retailing are only starting in most places in the world...and what is built is Super-Glitzy...strictly for the elite.
You can still see village life and old markets...right next to modern stores...
And just a short distance away...the roosters are crowing and the fish flopping in the old market...which is packed with shoppers.
How this all develops will be interesting to watch...
