With the disappearance of two US troops the kidnapping situation in Baghdad is coming into the foreground...
Allowing troops or police to diffuse out into small units creates huge kidnapping hazards. This may stop any attempts to "control Baghdad" other that at a few fortified "check points."
Yet "bunching up" for security...simply provides a bigger "foot print"...and a bigger target for the insurgents to strike...and fosters local resentments against the occupation.
VENTURING AWAY FROM THE "GREEN ZONE" STRATEGY OBVIOUSLY HAS UNFORESEEN CONSEQUENCES!
BUT STAYING TRAPPED INSIDE THE GREEN ZONE AND OTHER FORTIFIED LOCATIONS CREATES...A BIZZARE BUNKER STATE THAT CAN NOT RULE...AND A STATE THAT CAN NOT RULE...IS NO STATE AT ALL.
At some point the US presence in Iraq may be that of an unwelcome guest who refuses to leave!
And that will be a sad, embarassing and expensive ending for this disasterous "optional war."
But appearently the "Republican Plan" is to hunker down in Washington until the voters politely ask them to leave at the next election...which they will gladly do without protest or objections!
