The FREE TRADERS are out en masse, with their PIE-IN-THE-SKY JOBS
arguments.
The operative notion seems to be that the mass migration of jobs of
all kinds to LOW WAGE COUNTRIES is ultimately a "good thing" for
American Workers. But alas, they leave the details a little sketchy.
But, to actually believe this odd notion you have to IGNORE HISTORY
big time!
Alas, the punditacracy has never been good with historical facts, but
consider:
In the past, technology changed jobs for the better, there were
always more jobs, not less, because of the new technology.
Sure the popular "buggy whip" makers stoped making buggy whips BUT
THEY DID NOT GO COMPLETELY OUT OF BUSINESS!
THEY MAKE OTHER THINGS, LIKE CAR SEATS AND CAR TOPS FOR THE NEW AUTO
INDUSTRY.
And, Body by Fisher, IMMEDIATELY TRASITIONED from carriage makers to
car body makers WITH HUGE INCREASES IN THE NUMBER OF JOBS ON OFFER!
Another boogus argument is the so-called transition from FARM TO
FACTORY!
FARM PRODUCTIVITY DID NOT DRIVE PEOPLE FROM THE LAND! URBAN
FACTORIES ATTRACTED PEOPLE WITH HIGH WAGES. THEN AND ONLY THEN, DID
THE PRODUCTIVITY OF THE FARMS INCREASE WITH TRACTORS, MACHINERY ETC.
PEOPLE DID NOT MOVE FROM THE FARMS TO THE CITIES, TO SIMPLY WANDER
AROUND JOBLESS IN THE CITIES! UNTIL THE FACTORIES OPENED UP!
THIS IS THE "BIG LIE" THAT THE FREE TRADE CROWD IS PUSHING RIGHT NOW!
The facts are these, CHEAP LABOR HAS BEEN AROUND FOR CENTURIES!
EVERYONE KNEW ABOUT IT, BUT IT WAS AVOIDED BY MOST LARGE NATIONS,
BECAUSE EVERYONE KNEW IT WOULD BREAK THE DOMESTIC ECONOMY SOONER OR
LATER!
THAT'S WHY TARIFFS ARE NOT JUST THE RECENT RAVINGS OF SOME UNIONIST
TYPES!
TARIFFS HAVE A LONG, LONG HISTORY, GOING BACK TO ANCIENT AND MEDIEVEL
TIMES! SO DOES PRICE FIXING! AND, OTHER RESTICTIONS ON DOMESTIC
ECONOMIC ACTIVITY.
What is new is this slavish devotion to FREE TRADE AMONG THE
INTERNATIONAL BANKERS AND GLOBAL CAPITALISTS.
BUT ALAS, gentle reader, tHEIR "INTERESTS" ARE NOT YOUR INTERESTS!
But, the pie-in-the-sky jobs crowd will soon be hopelessly
discredited;
Then, we will have to pick up the pieces of what's left of the US
Economy;
AND FIGURE OUT WHAT COMES NEXT!
THE NEXT FEW YEARS WILL NOT BE PRETTY;
ON THE OTHER HAND, OUR NEW PRESIDENT KERRY WILL BE PRESENTED
WITH A VERY VERY RARE: "ROOSEVELT MOMENT."
AND, THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN VERY OFTEN.
