The American political universe seems to be divided into two parts,
those who realize that Dubya is an idiot, and those who don't.
Or, between the enlightened few, and the ignorant many.
Over the weekend I was at a family gathering that included a cross
section of "middle class" voters. Most were church going NASCAR
types who voted for Dubya in the last election.
AND I WAS SHOCKED AT HOW UNREPENTANT MOST OF THEM ARE!
These Dubya voters are an odd lot. They are middle class
professionals mostly. Managers, CPAs, teachers etc.
As a rule they are very, very uninformed about "world affairs" or
current events.
They do not read ANY newspapers, or even watch cable "talk news."
They MAY be able to parrot an occassional sound bite from the network
news shows;
IF AND ONLY IF, it concerns them directly in some way.
But mostly TELEVISION is all sports, and all "fluff," all the time.
You know the type? ALAS, THEY ARE LEGION!
AND, AS FAR AS THE NYT OR WSJ OP-ED PAGE? FORGET ABOUT IT! THAT'S
TOTALLY TERRA INCOGNITA TO THEM!
I WOULD CALL THEM MIDDLE CLASS IDIOTS, BUT others CALL THEM
NASCAR DADS and SOCCER MOMS.
What will it take to get these people to realize that Dubya and Chums
are destroying their futures and the futures of their children?
Well, some of them ARE CONCERNED that their children have dismal job
prospects. And, some are trying to "get smarter" so they can "play
the markets" better.
BUT, NONE ARE OUTRAGED ABOUT HOW DUBYA AND CHUMS HAVE LOOTED THE
ECONOMY!
AND, SOME OF THESE PEOPLE WILL VOTE FOR DUBYA AGAIN IN NOVEMBER!
To some of us this is like driving your car intentionally into a
telephone pole!
IT'S ALMOST AS IF, VOTING REPUBLICAN IS THE DEFAULT POSITION FOR THE
IGNORANT WHITE MIDDLE CLASS IN AMERICA!
Some will admit that Dubya has been a bit of a disappointment.
But NONE blame Dubya and the NeoCons or Greenspan FOR ANYTHING THAT
HAS HAPPEN IN THE LAST FOUR YEARS!
Almost NONE of these people have even noticed Dubya's "cognitive
problems" with speaking or thinking on his feet. Most say: Oh, he
talks good.
INDEED, MANY ARE SAYING: "WELL, THEY DID THE BEST THEY COULD!"
GO FIGURE!
CAN THIS TYPE OF MIDDLE CLASS WHITE IGNORANCE PREVAIL AGAIN?
THERE ARE MILLIONS OF 'EM OUT THERE!
AND I FEAR THAT IT COULD!
BECAUSE THIS ELECTION WILL NOT, I REPEAT NOT, BE WON OR LOST ON THE
OP-ED PAGE OF THE NEW YORK TIMES OR THE WALL STREET JOURNAL!
THOSE SACRED PRECINCTS ARE "TERRA INCOGNITA" TO MOST OF THE VAST
UNINFORMED WHITE MIDDLE CLASS IN AMERICA!
I FEAR THIS ELECTION WILL BE WON OR LOST IN THE CHURCH PEWS, AND ON
AM TALK RADIO! YET AGAIN.
THIS BUS IS HEADING FOR A TELEPHONE POLE AGAIN!
PERHAPS, WE ENLIGHTENED FEW SHOULD BE LOOKING FOR A WAY TO JUMP OFF!
FORGET THE "HAPPY ENDING" IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN........THE IGNORANT
AMERICAN MIDDLE CLASS WILL GO FASCIST, BEFORE THEY GO LIBERAL!
