The war in Iraq is kind of strange.
The problem is there is a text and sub-text to the entire affair.
OK Saddam is gone. He was holding together an area that had the
potential of falling apart. And, his methods were often brutal.
Now, the US has replaced Saddam. But, for better or worse?
Dubya claims he wants democracy, but he is afraid to let the Iraqi
people vote! Hmmm.....?
Dubya talks of the War on Terror, but he refuses to criticize the
Sharonist brutality against the Palestinians in their "occupied
territories."
Unless and until, Dubya becomes an HONEST BROKER in the Middle East;
all who live there will think of the Dubya and US as merely a Zionist
Tool!
And, that's really the problem isn't it?
That's really the unspoken sub-text of everything we say and do about
the Middle East.
IF DUBYA'S GOAL IS TO ESTABLISH A "PRO-LIKUD" GOVENRMENT IN IRAQ AND
AFGHANISTAN?
THEN THIS WAR IS LOST!
WILL ANY "DEMOCRATIC" IRAQI GOVERNMENT HAVE TO BE BY DEFINITION "PRO-
ISRAEL AND ANTI-PALESTINIAN STATEHOOD?"
THEN THIS WAR IS LOST!
AND WILL ANY NEW IRAQI LEADER BE "ALLOWED" TO CRITICIZE ISRAEL ABOUT
THE PENDING ANNEXATION OF THE WEST BANK AND GAZA?
IF NOT, THIS WAR IS LOST!
Any American who is still "amazed and baffled" by the strong
opposition to the Iraq War, in Euroland and elsewhere, MUST, SOONER
OR LATER, ASK AND ANSWER ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS.
AFTER ALL, IS IT REALLY ABOUT MUSLIM "WOMEN'S RIGHTS" THAT THE
REPUBLICANS ARE SPENDING BILLIONS AND KILLING EVERYDAY?
OR IS IT ABOUT THE LIKUD PLAN FOR A "THIRD TEMPLE" BEING REBUILT?
Most Americans are totally ignorant of the "Third Temple Movement" in
Israel and among the religious right in the US.
As a result, Americans are told, Muslims want to "kill us because we
are good." Or because, "They hate democracy."
And, most Americans believe it. They have little access to the other points of view. Even Euroland has a more "enlightened" view about the big picture in the Middle East.
But, does this seem rational to "blacked out" Americans?
THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT IF THE WEST BANK AND GAZA WERE SUDDENLY
RESOLVED;
THAT EVERY MUSLIM WOULD SUDDENLY BECOME "PRO-WESTERN!" FAR FRUM IT!
But, those FEW remaining Muslims who are still "outraged" about Arabs
being expelled from Spain in the 15th Century?
COULD BE TREATED WITH ANTI-PSYCHOTICS!
NOT, WITH ARMIES OF CONQUEST AND OCCUPATION!
See the point? You simply can not run a war based on lies and half-
truths! Not for long anyway.
IN SUMMARY, BY TELLING ONLY HALF OF THE STORY IN THE MIDDLE EAST,
DUBYA AND CO. HAVE TERMINALLY DAMAGED THEIR CREDIBLITY WITH THE
MUSLIM WORLD, AND INDEED, WITH THE WORLD AT LARGE.
BUT PERHAPS, IN THE SECOND YEAR OF THIS ILL-FATED WAR, WE CAN START
TO TELL THE WHOLE STORY! (If Sharon lets us).

HALF TRUTHS ONLY LEAD TO CONFUSION AND FRUSTRATION.
