The South is a pain. And it always has been!
Consider:
Back in the 1770's the American Revolution was conceived in the
teahouses and taverns of Boston. And it was born in the salons of
New York City.
BUT TO PULL OFF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION, IT HAD TO BE RUN BY
SOUTHERNERS!
Think Washington & Jefferson here.
Worse yet, there is an absolute direct intellectual link between
Thomas Jefferson and Jefferson Davis of the Confederacy! I think
Thomas Jefferson would have been a Confederate given the chance.
Of course, this was during the period when the South still had
it's "peculiar institution."
THEN CAME THE ABOLITIONISTS OF NEW ENGLAND! And, Civil War was
inevitable. The real question is not why was there a Civil War;
but why the Union lasted as long as it did!
Remember, there was only 50 years between Thomas Jefferson and
Jefferson Davis & The War between the States. That's like the time
between Eisenhower and Dubya.
THEN CAME RECONSTRUCTION, FOR WHICH THE SOUTH NEVER REALLY FORGAVE
WASHINGTON.
So, Washington let them have JIM CROW! AND LATER THE KLAN!
THEN CAME THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT. SLOWLY AT FIRST IN THE 20's and
30's. Then faster after 1948.
FINALLY CAME THE 1960's AND INTEGRATION FOR WHICH THE SOUTH NEVER
FORGAVE WASHINGTON, AGAIN.
OK. ENOUGH HISTORY.
What does the NEW REPUBLICAN PARTY offer the South today?
VERY LITTLE REALLY, OF SUBSTANCE.
IS FREE TRADE ANY EASIER FOR SOUTHERN INDUSTRY, THAN FOR NORTHERN
FACTORIES? NO.
IS LACK OF AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE LESS OF A BURDEN IN THE SOUTH? NO.
DOES LETTING INTERNATIONAL CAPITAL "RUN THE WORLD" BENEFIT THE SOUTH
OVER THE THE NORTH? NO.
DO TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH, AND THE RESULTING DEFICITS HELP THE SOUTH
IN ANY WAY? NO.
DOES THE SOUTH BENEFIT FROM "CHEAP LABOR?" NO. AT LEAST NOT AGAINST
THE "NEW CHINA" SO BELOVED BY THE REPUBLICAN FREE TRADERS!
SO, WHY DOES THE SOUTH FAVOR THE REPUBLICAN PLUTOCRATS? WHY HAS THE
SOUTH SOLD IT'S SOUL TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY SO CHEAPLY?
A Flag Burning Amendment! Gay Bashing! Some secret desire to "roll
back" Civil Rights? Some mumbo jumbo about putting "Christian
Values" back in government?
NONSENSE. ALL NONSENSE!
NO WONDER EVERYTHING THE REPUBLICANS ARE "SELLING" IN THE SOUTH
REQUIRES A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT!
LO, YE SOUTHERNERS! YOU HAVE SOLD YOUR SOULS TO THE DEVIL SO CHEAPLY!
DUBYA PROMISES YOU "MORALITY," AND YOUR PENSION TURNS UP MISSING!
DUBYA PROMISES YOU "DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE," AND YOUR JOB GOES TO CHINA!
DUBYA PROMISES YOU "PATRIOTISM," AND YOUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS GO OFF
TO FOREIGN WARS THAT ARE UNWINABLE, AND THAT BENEFIT ONLY THE ISRAELI
LOBBY IN WASHINGTON. WHY ELSE ARE WE IN IRAQ? ALL OF DUBYA'S
ARGUMENTS HAVE FALLEN THROUGH. AND, ONLY GEO-POLITICAL CATASTROPHE

It may be time for Dixie to look away from the Republicans and Dubya,
and insist on getting more for your money, than Constitutional
Amendments, and bogus "values" mumbo-jumbo! Ya think?
