I came, I watched, I listened, I was bored!
The debate was the same old, same old, Yada Yada. The spin-masters were out in force confusing the voters, even before the debate ended!
But, I had the odd feeling that "something was wrong."
It was an intuitive sense somehow; that we are not getting something right here. But, what could it be?
The networks were treating the debates like an episode of AMERICAN
IDOL!
You're not tall enough! You slouched! Who "looked" presidential; whatever that means! It's Brittany vs. J-Low. Whose belly-button is "cuter!" Alien vs. Predator!
God help us, if foreigners are hearing this totally superficial "commentary" from our dimwitted "pundits!"
One "undecided" voter said, I like Kerry a lot. And Bush seems confused and out of touch. BUT, I CAN'T VOTE FOR KERRY. Why?
silence............. No answer given..........

Is it because of your buddies at church? The bowling alley? The
bar? ARE WE A NATION OF YAHOOS NOW!
Well, of course we are! Depressing. Really depressing.
So, I watched a little Leno and Letterman. Some Charlie Rose.
Read some. Confusedly. Lights out.............
THEN, A 4AM MY EYES SNAPPED OPEN!
EUREKA! I HAVE IT! I SEE THE PROBLEM!
IT'S ALL A MATTER OF VALUES vs. CHOICES!
IT'S NOT DUBYA'S "VALUES" THAT ARE WRONG! IT'S HIS CHOICES!
Dubya, we are told, is "driven" by "core beliefs," but this is not
enough! You have to make CHOICES on the best way to implement
those beliefs.
Do we "bring democracy to Iraq" by bombing villages?
Killing women and children. And kicking down doors shouting: "Time for a little democracy, You Mother Fuckers!!"
Is that how we spread our so called "values?"
Do we cut taxes for the wealthy; to "stop the recession?"
Well, tax cuts are the "way to go" during a recession, right? Well, not always......again it's a matter of choices, not values.
You don't cut taxes; when you have bills to pay, like a war and social security payments, and health care, and huge deficits to consider! You just don't do it. It's not a good "choice."
SO, IT'S NOT BUSH'S VALUES! IT'S HIS CHOICES THAT ARE WRONG!
IT'S HIS NEARLY ALWAYS BAD JUDGMENT THAT LEADS TO THE BAD CHOICES!
Because;
THE ROAD TO HELL IS PAVED WITH "NOBLE VALUES!"
AND "BAD CHOICES" ARE THE ROAD BED ON WHICH THAT PAVEMENT IS LAID!
What's wrong with a purely Germanic Society; the Nazis used to ask?
But, do you kill people who are not like you to get it!
Every Nazi believed they were doing the "right thing!"
No one gets up in the morning and says: "I'm going out today to do evil."
VALUES ARE NOT ABSOLUTES. THEY MUST BE TEMPERED WITH JUDGMENT.
AND THE CHOICES MADE, TO ACHIEVE THOSE VALUES, MUST BE THE RIGHT ONES, AT THE RIGHT TIME, IN THE RIGHT PLACE.
Complicated, I know. But know one said that leadership was going to be easy!
THAT'S WHY GEORGE BUSH IS SO RIGHT! AND YET, SO WRONG IN THE MINDS
OF MANY PEOPLE.
BUSH MAKES BAD CHOICES. HE HAS BAD JUDGMENT!
AND THEN, HE FALLS BACK ON HIS "VALUES" TO PROTECT HIM FROM THE INEVITABLE CRITICISM.
I'M RIGHT! THE WORLD'S WRONG! I HAVE VALUES! I HAVE MORALS! I
NEVER QUESTION MY VALUES! I NEVER FLIP-FLOP! YOU'RE WRONG! YOU'RE
NOT A "LEADER."
THE ENDS JUSTIFY THE MEANS!
DUBYA WANTS TO "AMERICANIZE" THE MIDDLE EAST IN THE SAME WAY THAT HITLER WANTED TO "GERMANIZE" EUROPE!
TO "PURIFY" THE WORLD FROM ALL "EVIL DOERS!"
TO BOMB AND KILL AND DESTROY LIVES AND PROPERTY---FOR SOME "HIGHER GOOD." TO "MOP UP" AND THEN KILL SOMEMORE.
WELL, THE GERMANS ALSO HAD A "LEADER" ONCE, REMEMBER?
......AND WE ALL KNOW HOW THAT TURNED OUT.
BEWARE OF GIVING GREAT POWER TO SMALL MEN.
BEWARE OF BECOMING THAT "GOOD GERMAN" OF THE 1930'S.
KNOW THIS---THE RE-ELECTION OF GEORGE W. BUSH WILL BE A GLOBAL CATASTROPHE---RIGHT FROM DAY ONE OF HIS SECOND TERM.
BUT, WE STILL HAVE A CHANCE. ONE LAST SMALL CHANCE...TO SAVE
OURSELVES, AND THE WORLD FROM THIS GATHERING DISASTER.
