The Palestinian Elections are providing those foolish enough to still have hope with something to hope for in the Israel/Palestine situation.
But alas, it is a totally False Dawn.
The problem for many in the US is that the news is always slanted or filtered toward the Israeli ultra-right viewpoint.
Indeed, many Americans believe that the Israeli Ultra-Right is the MAINSTREAM POSITION in Israel! And the world!
And worse, that the ultra-right represent mainstream "received truth" everywhere.
Thank God for America's SOFT CENSORSHIP which censors by merely NOT reporting, and not by outright lies.
Although the "truth" is occasionally "adjusted" to favor one side over another! We sort of "keep it simple" for the American Bubbas, least they strain their small brains!
TO SHARON AND DUBYA, THE ONLY "GOOD" PALESTINIAN LEADER IS ONE WHO IS WILLING TO CONCEDE THE WEST BANK TO THE ISRAELI ULTRA-RIGHT WITH THEIR SETTLEMENTS;
AND ACCEPT THE SHRUNKEN GAZA AS THE "PALESTINIAN STATE"-----SOMEDAY!!
THIS OF COURSE WILL NEVER HAPPEN.
Hence we see Abbas "morphing" everyday into---THE NEW ARAFAT!
This notion that Abbas will somehow become the "patsy" of Sharon and the US and secretly "give away the store" is just nuts.
THERE ARE ONLY TWO WAYS TO SETTLE THIS ISSUE:
1. THE EXPULSION OF ALL MUSLIMS FROM THE WEST BANK INTO JORDAN, GAZA OR EGYPT, AND THE CREATION BY FORCE AND CONQUEST OF A GREATER ISRAEL ON THE WEST BANK TERRITORIES.
OR,
2 THE TRANSFORMATION OF ISRAEL INTO A OPEN MIDDLEASTERN SECULAR
STATE THAT IS NOT A JEWISH THEOCRACY.
Frankly, I think the secular Israel idea is the best and most workable longer term. After all, if we accept a Jewish Theocracy in Israel, how can we complain about a Muslim Theocracy in Iraq or Iran? Perhaps we should oppose Theocracies EVERYWHERE in this age of globalism!
The Ideal of Greater Israel as a Biblical Boutique State and a Jewish Theocracy in the middle east is a little utopian in this time of political and economic globalism.
An open and secular Israel could be prosperous and peaceful have open relations to other states in the region.
BUT SADDLY, DUBYA, SHARON AND THE ULTRA-RELIGIOUS ON BOTH SIDES HAVE NOT BEEN THINKING STRAIGHT FOR A LONG TIME NOW.
HENCE, THIS DISASTEROUS WAR IN IRAQ;
AND NOW POSSIBLY WITH IRAN SOON, ALL BASED ON SOME BIZZARE NOTIONS OF "BIBLICAL RE-CONQUEST" OF THE MIDDLE EAST.
RIGHT NOW THE BIGGEST THREAT TO ISRAEL IS DUBYA, SHARON, THE NEOCONS AND THE ISRAELI ULTRA-RIGHT .
THEIR POLICIES OF A RELIGION BASED BIBLICAL RE-CONQUEST OF THE MIDDLE EAST IS AN ALL OR NOTHING POLICY.
AND ALAS, I FEAR THE LIKELY RESULT......DOWN THE ROAD......WILL BE NOTHING!
ABBAS WILL REPRESENT THE INTERESTS OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE. HE WILL BECOME THE "NEW ARAFAT" IN SHORT ORDER.
