Many Iraqis voted in yesterday's election because
they were told that voting would cause the Americans to leave faster!
Television ads in Iraq showed a long line of dusty US tanks and other vehicles heading toward the top of the screen and by implication OUT OF IRAQ...... Perhaps having the line of tanks going toward the bottom of the screen would have implied ENTERING IRAQ....? Still the message was clear:
IF YOU VOTE THE AMERICANS WILL LEAVE.
SO THAT IMPLIED PROMISE BY ALLAWI AND HIS GREEN ZONIANS, PLUS THE DECREE BY SISTANI THAT IT WAS A RELIGIOUS DUTY TO VOTE CAUSED MANY IRAQIS TO FLOCK TO THE POLLS.
The real issue is will the hopes be dashed by Neocon Plans for permanent US bases inside Iraq?
Remember one rational for the invasion in the first place was to Exit the Holy Lands of Saudi Arabia and thus placate the Osamaites who felt the "infidels" were occupying the "holy places" of Arabia...... And the Neocons desperately want US military bases in the region to secure the oil fields just in case, and also to protect Israel during the coming annexation of the West Bank, which is almost inevitable. Sharon's "Gaza Pullout" being merely a head fake to "give" the Palestinians "a state" even while the Lukudnics annex the West Bank into "Greater Israel."
IT IS VERY LIKELY THAT THE HOPES OF THE IRAQI PEOPLE FOR A QUICK END TO OCCUPATION WILL BE DASHED.
THE HOPE OF THE NEOCONS SEEMS TO BE THAT A NEW POLITICAL CLASS IN "DEMOCRATIC" IRAQ CAN BE BOUGHT OFF WITH CASH FAIRLY EASILY.
WHO KNOWS.....MAYBE EVEN SISTANI HAS "HIS PRICE?"
AND IF THAT HAPPENS, THEN THE RADICAL ISLAMISTS WILL CONTINUE THEIR FIGHT AGAINST IRAQ'S "NEW MASTERS" AND THE WEST UNABATED.
Everyone knows that even in democracies the people get what the elites want to give them.....not necessarily what they voted for!
Take Dubya & Co. The Republcian "Bubba Base" voted for more gay bashing and to stop abortion. But the "bait and switch" hit fast.....now it's all about trashing Social Security and cutting taxes even more!
SO, THE ELITES ALWAYS "WIN."
For forms of government let fools contest.....that government that picks up the garbage on time.....is always BEST!
