Maureen Dowd's recent columns in the
New York Times have slipped the surly bonds of "mere political commentary" and are now soaring in the Swiftian heights of Political Satire.
Satire and Humor are much more effective in making a political statement. It is one thing to expose your opponent's argument as untrue, it is something else altogether to make your opponent into a laughing stock!
The last thing the Times or any other media outlet needs is another "smart white guy explains it all" column! Borrrring....
If you go into the Blogosphere....and see who's read and who's not....it's those Blogs with an oddball edge that people like to read.
True, some are "people like me" Blogs.....fat white people having birthday parties.....etc.
But many are written by "fringe types" like gays, transvestives and gender benders....or perhaps a teacher in Baghdad, or a scientist at the South Pole. How else do you explain Andrew Sullivan...?
But good, funny, satrical writing is not new, S.J. Perlman did it well, and Mark Twain before him......but it's very hard to do. And thus, more interesting to read....
Eat your heart out all you "Painfully Rational Smart White Guys!
BETTER READ, THAN DEAD!
