In the NYTimes, David Brooks prays for his New Messiah thusly:
"He's going to be set off by some event like what is happening right now with the Medicare prescription drug benefit. He's going to look at an event like that one, and he's not only going to be worried about the country's economic future - he's also going to be morally offended. He's going to sense that something fundamentally decadent is going on."
Brooks should ask: Why must the US spend 15% or GDP on health care when the rest of the world, much of it having better care and coverage, only spends 5%?
Clearly, the SPECIAL INTEREST LOBBIES have to be behind this somewhere.
And the prescription benefit--- WHICH CANADA HAS NO PROBLEM AFFORDING---
....Is, alas, under the Brooks' reasoning, unaffordable to American seniors!
Brooks places the budget blame on Democrats "entitlements" but has no problem spending 300 Billion on an "optional war" that has been nothing but a mistake.....and is still draining the national treasury!
IF THE AMERICAN WAR BUDGET WAS THE SAME AS THE REST OF THE WORLD.....THE ENTITLEMENTS THAT EUOREANS ENJOY WOULD BE AVAILABLE TO AMERICANS TOO!
Going forward, the real question is can the US afford an economy draining IMPERIAL WAR BUDGET?
The War Budget only seems to cause more war! And more Anti-Americanism in the strangest places like Europe, Asia, Africa and South America and Canada and Mexico!
Remember when Dubya had his standing army parked in Kuwait?
And the big question was to invade, or not to invade Iraq?
Well, the decision was made:
Hell, we're here.....we might as well invade and see what happens! Rather than send these guys home..... Maybe we'll be greeted as "liberators" like Chalabi and "Curveball" said..... Opps....
The UN inspectors were barely able to end their US inspired and totally goofball WMD "wild goose chase"--- before the US tanks rolled to Baghdad! And the rest is history.
Do we really need a new messiah for the mess Dubya has created?
Or, just a return of sensible people to positions of power?
Brooks' call for a NEW PEROT may be premature.... I'd suggest a NEW CLINTON and a return of King Kongress to the Democrats in 2006!
THAT WOULD "CURE" A LOT OF ILLS....
AND ORDINARY PEOPLE AND SENIORS MIGHT START GETTING THE RESPECT THEY DESERVE!
ONCE THE REPUBLICAN AND NEOCON IMPERIALISTS ARE SENT PACKING......
Amazingly rather than give the Democrats their due.....Brooks lurches wildly in favor of a New Perot!
