The answer to Brook's NYTimes op-ed question about current "democratization" efforts in the middle east: WHY NOT HERE?
Political and Social Chaos...that's why not here. And most ordinary people in the middle east know this....
As Bush Doctrine upsetting of the various apple carts in the middle east continues.... Many are asking: Please, not here!
Is Iraq really that wonderful of a place today....after the Invasion? There is chaos, killing and daily destruction everywhere, and "interesting times" ahead for the new political class, to be sure.... But to what end? Where does it end?
Will the Neocons be satisfied with the ultimate result in Iraq? And in Lebanon.....? Somehow I doubt it.
Remember, it is much easier to cause chaos.....than it is to stop it.
And for all of the Bull-In-The-China-Shop actions of the Neocons and Bush....FEW IN THE MIDDLE EAST ARE NOW PRO-AMERICAN.....AND MANY MORE SEEM TO BE ANTI-AMERICAN, ANTI-BUSH AND ANTI-IMPERIALISM , democracy or not.
The Iranians seem to be saying: Thanks, but stay out...we'll handle it with out having our cities "smart bombed." And without the torture chambers of the Americans.....
Yes, there is a odd patriotic beauty in Neocon destruction and chaos..... bombing, killing, torturing in the name of democracy.....
BUT FEW IN THE MIDDLE EAST ARE ASKING FOR AMERICAN INTERVENTIONISM..... And it's doubtful that after the Iraq mess the Neocons can afford anymore "cures" for former US backed autocracies.....
Dumping the elites is great fun! Why not here......?
