I was reading James Farrell's 1932 novel "Studs Lonigan" last night.
...not a good thing to do if you're in a really bad mood about the economy....
And I could not help thinking how similar the 1930's are to our time...
The Wall Street elites continue to loot the economy like it's 1999...(1929)... Indeed, to Wall Street nothing has changed...INDEED, THE ECONOMY IS BOOMING...ONLY THE PUBLIC JUST DOESN'T "SEE" IT!
Oil companies have record profits. And record heating bills will soon stun the American Consumer.
Delphi is slashing BOTH jobs and wages...a double barrelled win for profits and CEO paychecks. All "cash" now please and thank you...no "stock options" please.)
And Pensions are being dumped in Bankruptcy Court, even while workers are barred from the Courthouse door.
But alas, when a company relys on wage and job cuts to "save it." It is already lost...we learned that in the 1930's...
Job and wage cuts never work! You can embroider that on a sampler and hang it on the wall!
Somehow I suspect that it's WALL STREET that doesn't get it....not the American Consumer.
