BORDERS AND THE DEMISE OF PRINT....

Not all Borders stores are closing... At least not yet... But the demise of a big box store...has got to have consequences for publishers...

Borders will probably survive as a much smaller company...perhaps with more attention to the online portion of their income...

The distribution of books by specialty retailers may be growing but I dont see it was replacing the book store totally... Most of these stores are selling books as an impulse buy for customers...and not providing a good selection ...

For selection and price...the Internet is still the biggest competition for the B&M retailer...

The digitization of print media is only now getting serious...the transition to paperless media will continue...

Even in the "coffee table" or picture book area...the Internet can deliver high quality images much quicker and cheaper than the best printing companies can produce...
