Presently...the only valid Progressive policy is one that is good for people short term and long term...
Because what has happen, in and to, America over the last 20 years...is a model about : "How not to run an economy and a nation"...
International Capital was allowed to loot the economy ... move it off shore...and THEN get bailed out when the system collapsed...
The Democrats or Progressives should have spoken up sooner...about the Wall Street looting...
But the Republicans never could have...because they and their backers where doing the looting... Republicans say all government is bad...and they prove it everytime they run the government...!
At this point its too late to "go back"...too late to protect the industrial base...or have single payer health care... or cut the Imperial War/Military Budgets... or have a FED that stands up to Wall Street instead of making sure the punch bowl is overflowing all the time...
A straight line decline is now in effect...and everyone knows it...
Its too late now...
Americans are being told that they are "too poor" to expect anything now...
Even as the FED continues to stuff International Corporations with paper money to build more factories in Asia...IF AND WHEN "Demand" on Main Street ever picks up again...
This thing is an out of control...
