This weekend I was visiting a small rural county seat town...with the usual Walmart...and lots fast food outlets...
And I was shocked at how empty the Walmart was on a Friday night...! Only the gun counter had any business...this is the kind of place where the men wear camo and baseball hats...as their standard uniform...
The shelves where very well stocked with stuff...over loaded even...(mostly made in China as usual)...And apparently Walmart is doing a lot of "clearance" selling now...
It was all much different than I remembered it a few years ago even... Almost a surreal emptiness...
I really don't think rural people have the money...or can afford the gas to go to Walmart anymore... A "short" 20 mile drive each way to and back from a Walmart...would cost about $8 in gas alone at $4 per gallon...in a Ford F150 pickup...
If someone asked me how an Economic Depression sounds...I'd say quiet...very very quiet...the quiet is almost surreal
