The origin of the legislative branch was to allow the elites...the landed classes or "Barons"...to have some say in the policies of the monarchy...
Eg the House of Lords in England...
The "common folk"...with no skin in the game...had to settle for a "tribune" or a "representative" to speak for them in the halls of power...
Slowly the "Commons" became more powerful...as commerce expanded the wealth of ordinary people...and a new prosperous "merchant class"...arose.
So the Peoples Tribune morphed into the House of Commons or in the US the House of Representatives...
The common people can become a mob if not controlled...that is why there are checks and balances...
Prior to AM hate radio...and now Fox News as its TV version... Ordinary people more or less took the 'advice' of their "betters"...the upper class property and business owners and the intelligensia...a/k/a MSM or "Lamestream Media"...
With Fox News... STUPIDITY WAS GIVEN A VOICE...
This was not intended by the founders...in fact they feared it IF you read the Federalist Papers... Hence the Electoral College.
And there were property requirements for voting...literacy tests...women could not vote...
The notion was to keep the "common mob" under the control of the "better elements" in the society...
Now with Fox and AM Radio...IGNORANCE HAS A VOICE...BIG TIME...AND 24/7...
It could be Palin...or the Tea Party...or any of the other Fox "contributors"...basically the bar stool and the bimbos can speak up and rant to a huge audience of "their peers"...with the disasterous results we see everyday now...
This is very dangerous...and if it continues...it could end the Republic that was founded in 1787...
