Amazing that it took the BBC to do a story about a Nashville Bookstore...!
People love bookstores...they like to walk around and look...and feel at home with the books... People feel like they are smarter just by being in a bookstore...sort of a "self improvement" thing...
Its also nowadaze partly an entertainment venue...not unlike Starbucks when people go there to read or chat...
Here's the problem... there are book people...and non book people... The book people will come into a bookstore over and over ...like clock work...
The non book people would not take a free book if you were handing them out on the street...and they are about 85% of the population.
There are often not enough book people to support an independent bookstore... Even the major big independents have to struggle with that...
And of course the online sellers...always loom in the background... Do I buy this "out of print" book HERE AND NOW...or wait and see if its better and cheaper on line...
