I have always been amazed at the willingness of Bubba to believe a
Republican "lie" over a Democratic "fact."
Wassup?
Well, I have a theory:
My hunch is that Bubba does not respond well to "intellectual
arguments." The kind you get so often in Liberal circles.
Bubba operates from the "GUT." NOT THE BRAIN! OK? Get it?
Indeed, among Bubbas the brain is probably their least favorite
organ! Need proof? Fox Network? Talk Radio?
The beauty of Republican lies is that they simply do not appeal to
the brain AT ALL.
They are outside of logic and therefore need not fear "logical and
reasonable" argument.
That's why for example, Gore "lost" those debates with Dubya in 2000.
IF THE DEMOCRATS AND KERRY ARE GOING TO WIN IN NOVEMBER THEY MUST
ABANDON ALL LOGIC AND REASON NOW!
FORGET THE HEAD, GO FOR THE GUT, BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE BUBBA LIVES.
Of course, there will be cries of "class warfare" but so be it! It
will work in November! Especially THIS November!
Just "lecturing" Bubba like a school marm won't work! It's a total
turn off to the Bubba voters, (who probably hated teachers and
school! Right?).
That's really the "secret appeal" of Howard Dean and Nader to some
Democrats!
They are not afraid to be PASSIONATE! AND UNREASONABLE
AND ILLOGICAL! They are capable of doing a PRIMAL SCREAM that shocks
the intellecutal elite.
AND ALAS, THEY CAN SHOOT FROM THE GUT WITH THE BEST REPUBLICANS!
Kerry is starting off a bit too "Gore-esque" in my opinion. But,
it's early, and he can change, and he has Dubya's catasprophic record
to fall back on.
BUT STILL, UNLESS THE DEMOCRATS LEARN THAT LOGIC AND REASON AND "GOOD
MACRO-POLICIES" ARE USELESS WITH THE BUBBA VOTER; THEY COULD LOSE
AGAIN IN NOVEMBER.
And, Kerry's "daring" corporate tax cut proposal was too cute by
half. But still, it's early. But beware, don't "turn off" your
angry middle class base by trying to be "Bush-Lite!"
Most middle class people would love to be anti-Dubya, if they
had "permission" and they didn't feel trapped in a MIDDLE CLASS
REPUBLICANISM; where Dennis and Kenny-Boy get billions in tax cuts,
while the middle class gets homophobic rhetoric and other "wedge
issues" to chew on! (Is it time for the "Flag-Burning Amendment"
yet?)
MY ADVISE TO THE KERRY CAMP IS QUIT TRYING TO BE SO CAREFUL, AND SO
GOD AWFUL BORING! Fire your speech writers, who I suspect worked for
Al Gore not too long ago!
LET THE DEANIACS WRITE SOME SPEECHES! YES!

OIL AND THE END GAME!
News that OPEC is cutting oil production could start the use of Oil as a geo-political Weapon in the coming presidential elections!
Clearly, the Saudis don't want to help Dubya and the Neocons be re-elected! Why?
The Neocons have been spreading anti-Saudi rhetoric for some time.
And, with the Shia of Iraq now "liberated," the Saudis must realize that the Shia in their Eastern oil fields are likely in the Neocon's cross-hairs.
In a strange way there is now a convergence of extreme anti-Americanism globally.
And, the right and the left seem oddly united in their anti-Americanism, and anti-Dubya sentiments.
The French left is now resurgent.
Indeed, the French ultra-right and the ultra-left are in agreement about the negative role of Dubya and the Neocons in the world's problems.
Further, the socialist take over in Spain seems to rest on anti-Americanism as much as on any new social spending.
And oddly, in Serbia, there is a new Nationalist government that is anti-western and anti-American; even as the "angelic" Muslims in Kosovo lash out at the NATO "occupation," and the "evil" Serbs.
So, you might say that in the Balkans our friends and our enemies now hate us! Now that's something!
And, now comes new clashes between Jews and Arabs near the Temple Mount, just as I said there would be!! It's coming....
INDEED, WE SEEM TO BE IN SOME KIND OF GIGANTIC "END GAME."

GLOOM-N-STUFF
Just some short takes on recent events:
1. The WSJ was no help with it's article yesterday about gold as a new "respectable investment." Consider: The Journal finally OKs gold, and it's down big that same day!
Still, my gold stocks are the only ones that I consider long term holdings. That trade deficit is going to "kick in" someday. Count on it.
2. Jeremy Siegel's Journal op-ed today says that the Fed must be right about interest rates and inflation; DESPITE THE CRB! Why? Because the bond market is not punishing the Fed. Well, there is the little matter of the BOJ "supporting" US bonds, ya think?
And, news that the BOJ might be reconsidering being the buyer of last resort for US Treasuries is "interesting." I think Siegel may be jumping to conclusions too quickly here.
3. The Uzbekistan situation bears watching. If Osama and his boys want a WORLD WIDE CONFLICT about Islam and the West, a NEW WAR in Uzbekistan and the other "stans" could be the start of something big.
4. The Journal warns Dubya not to "do a Clinton," and use the Oil Reserves for political purposes this summer. But, if gas is hitting $2.50 on both coasts, I don't think so.
In truth, I think there is a 50-50 chance that the "gas crisis" may NEVER materialize this summer. These things have a way of "magically" going away. And, with the election coming, I'm expecting some kind of magic soon. In short, OPEC will "do it's duty".
5. The Journal reports that outsourcing may CREATE jobs in the US after all. How so? Well, after all of the high wage computer and tech jobs are moved to India;
American CEOs will have enough money to hire another CABANA BOY for their pools this summer! Now that's jobs progress--American Style!
6. Should the Tyco holdout juror be prosecuted for violating her JURORS OATH? Yes, in my opinion.
But, the Feds have a lesson to learn here too. DON'T MAKE SUCH COMPLICATED CASES! The Feds tend to throw in everthing but the kitchen sink, and that just pisses off the jury! Federal laws are statutory, not Common Law, as a result there are a lot of odd sounding "crimes," and some of them don't seem fair to the average person on a jury.
For example, I know of a case were a Kentucky "good ole boy" was charged with "moonshining." And, there were about 20 counts in the Federal information. Including not "identifying the illegal still with a visible sign!" Like what?
"WELCOME TO JEB'S ILLEGAL MOONSHINE STILL!" See the point?
In short, keep it simple. If the Feds look like they are "piling on" the sympathy of the jury often shifts to the defendant. FYI.

THE BOSS AND HIS JERK.
It's LABOR WEEK on The Street, and with that in mind, the WSJ has a
section on getting ahead in a lousy American job market.
And, what the Journal shows is a labor market that is for the most
part TOXIC TO WORK!
Everyone it seems is "doing" OFFICE POLITICS! And, very few people
other than the secretaries, janitors and security guards are
actually "working!"
The Journal describes discouraged workers slumped over their desks
waiting for "their turn to be shown the door."
It suggests that, in some cases, entire departments "disappear," and
the only people left standing are "the boss and his jerk."
And, it's even suggested that you have to be a "jerk" to make it in
today's American corporate labor market.
Of course, most of the real work for American corporations these days
is done by swarthy-skinned little people in foreign lands, who "work
cheap."
So, the American "cubicle culture" is mostly about preening, back-
biting and posturing for "promotions" into areas like "customer
relations," "governmental affairs" and "assistant to the assistant
VP in charge of marketing."
The Journal sites examples of some people who have given up on the
toxic American Corporate Nightmare, and are now doing things like:
Cooking, running their own art galleries, fashion design, or
otherwise running their own business. You can make a "small fortune" this way, provided you start with a large one!
Still, being a "stakeholder" is a very satisfying thing. In effect, you "make your own job."
Only you can't go up against the likes of Walmart and Home Depot and
expect to survive.
And increasingly, American retailing is about selling ever cheaper
stuff to people who are under-employed!
Not a happy business environment really.
MY HUNCH IS THAT THE LABOR NUMBER ON FRIDAY WILL BE BAD;
BECAUSE THERE IS JUST NO SIGN OF HOW IT COULD BE GOOD.
I MEAN IS ANYTHING REALLY "BOOMING?" WHERE?
ESSENTIALLY, THE MONETARY AND FISCAL PEDALS ARE TO THE METAL, AND THE
CAR IS STILL ONLY GOING 5 MILES PER HOUR!

QUIET, TOO, TOO QUIET
Wassup with the Hamas threats against Israel and the US?
Since the assassination of the wheel-chair bound Hamas leader, things
have gotten very, very quiet all of a sudden.
I don't like this. I don't like this at all.
Surely, Hamas will not respond to the recent outrage by Sharon with
just another bus bombing.
And, it's just too quiet, all of a sudden.....too, too quiet.
We know for sure that Hamas will respond. And it will be violent.
I fear that something is afoot. Some "Israeli 911" if you will.
And, if perchance, an Israeli 911 does occur, with this "justify" an
assault on the Temple Mount? Which I have felt was the "sine quo
non" of the Likudnics all along.
And, if there is an assault on the Temple Mount, what will be the
response of the Empire of Islam?
WELL, FOR THE BENEFIT OF FUTURE HISTORIANS.....I WOULD NOTE THAT
TONIGHT, IN THE HEAVENS, ALL FIVE VISIBLE PLANETS ARE LINING UP IN A
RARE CONJUNCTUION........

Tom Friedman says in the NYT today that he has not watched or read
anything about the 911 comission; BECAUSE HE HAS ALREADY MADE UP HIS
MIND!
Well, it's been quite clear for some time now that Friedman has been
taking his marching orders from the Israeli Lobby in the US, so
nothing is really new here.
Still, I think it's dangerous for the US as a whole to follow the
Likud Party line, without question.
For one thing;
MOST ISRAELIS DON'T FOLLOW THE LIKUD PARTY LINE WITHOUT QUESTION!
It now appears that Sharon will be indicted in Israel, and perhaps be
forced from office.
And I think that would be a very good thing for Israel; in the longer
run.
HERE'S WHY:
SOONER OR LATER, BOTH ISRAEL AND AMERICA ARE GOING TO HAVE TO LEARN
TO LIVE WITH MUSLIMS AND ARABS!
It's just inevitable. OK?
Sharon and Dubya's view that "just killing Muslims" will solve this
problem eventually is plain nuts. And worse, its dangerous.
It behooves those who love Israel to control the radical elements in
Israeli politics now. Because those who seek a "Greater Israel" may,
in truth, doom Israel's future in the middle east.
For example, those who want to retake the Temple Mount, and "re-build
the Third Temple" had best wait for some "divine intervention," and
not just jump the gun, and take divine planning into their own hands!
In the US, Arabs and Muslims are becoming an ever bigger part of the
overall population.
Because of our very low birth rates among native born Americans, the
US is, or will soon be, "dependant" on foreigners, (whose women have
not been "liberated" into the joys of professional careers), for new
births!
Indeed, I was at a shopping mall recently where the only people with
small children in strollers, or in tow, where foreigners, or at least
Middle Eastern or East European in appearance.
The point is that Anglo-Americans and Eurolanders are not reproducing
fast enough to win the geo-political Game of Demographics. Indeed,
teenage birth rates in the US are at all time lows!
Have these young Americans "found Jesus," or can't they "find jobs"
that pay enough to support a family?
Alas, sooner or later, demographics is destiny.
Thus, Israel may be doomed as a "Jewish State," but perhaps it can
survive as a middle eastern nation.
And, the US can not stop every person who "looks like a Muslim terrorist" from entering the country.
Nor can we search every bag on every train or plane, or those crossing the borders by car or truck.
This is a game we simply can not win.
So, when Mr Friedman and Mr Sharon and Mr Bush simply "quit listening" you can bet that THAT is a bad thing.

THE HERD ON MAIN STREET
You can learn alot on Main Street! I recommend it to politicans and
Fed members. For example:
THE NAIL SHORTAGE:
I was talking to a local builder about the real estate market and he
told me that the current wave of building will be the last! Why?
THE NAIL SHORTAGE!
He told me that all of the nails are made in China now, and they are
keeping them for themselves because of their domestic building boom!
And, the price of Nails in America is going up! And, it fact there
could be a NAIL SHORTAGE SOON!
I don't know how true this is, but it's interesting nevertheless.
THE RENTAL GLUT:
A real estate broker friend of mine said that a certain "rental
agency" in our area has a GLUT OF RENTALS AVAILABLE. Yeah, I said
but tell me something I don't already know.
She said: Well, a few of years ago, this agency had about
1500 "listed" apartments for rent.
AND NOW, THEY HAVE 5000 APARTMENT FOR RENT LISTINGS IN THIS AREA!
Talk about a "renters market,"

Finally;
THE BIG SELL OFF OF GOLD STOCKS, EVEN WHILE GOLD BILLION IS SOARING

IT'S ABOUT JOBS, STUPID!
It came to me last night, flash of insight. Yeah, again!
Suddenly, the jobs situation was crystal clear to me.
THE US ECONOMY IS NOT RECOVERING "DESPITE" LOW JOB CREATION!
THE US ECONOMY IS RECOVERING "BECAUSE" OF LOW JOB CREATION!
We have finally achieved FREE TRADE NIRVANA!
Like Keynes said about his economics, in the long run we are all
dead. And, of course, Keynes had heart disease so bad, he was right
on the money in his case.
So too, Free Trade has now achieved the "Keynesian Long Run!"
THE US ECONOMY HAS BECOME, PURELY AND SIMPLY, A FREE TRADE NIGHTMARE!
EVERY KNOWN PROBLEM IS NOW "STRUCTURAL."
Indeed, Greenspan's job description seems to be:
TO PRODUCED 20% ASSET INFLATION FOREVER, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY, AND
NO MATTER WHAT!
WE ARE ALL GOING TO LIVE OFF OF ASSETS, NOT WAGES NOW!
ARE WE ALL FINALLY LIVING "INSIDE" ONE OF DUBYA'S SMALL MINDED
NIGHTMARES?

KERRY ROSE GARDEN STRATEGY!
It may be Kerry, not Dubya, who has a Rose Garden Strategy!
The 911 hearings have stripped Dubya of his SECURITY BLANKET that was

envisioned coming in.

BATTLE FOR TEMPLE MOUNT LOOMS
Mr. Sharon's behavior of late indicates that he has something on his
mind. Everytime "peace is at hand" SOMETHING HAPPENS. Wassupwitdat?

Most American's know nothing about the Temple Mount controvery, but
each and every geo-political shift in the Israel-Palestine war has
involved the Temple Mount in one way or another.
First, some history. The Temple Mount is under the control of the
Arabs. It currently has the Dome of the Rock Mosque on it. But it
was previously the site of Solomon's Temple, the "First Temple" of
the Jewish people.
The Second Temple was built in the Roman Period, and was destroyed in
70 AD. The Romans used the Temple Mount to set up statues of their
emperors, and of Zeus, and other Gods after the destruction of the
Second Temple.
EVER SINCE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ISRAEL IN 1948 THERE HAS BEEN A
MOVEMENT TO ESTABLISH THE "THIRD TEMPLE" ON TEMPLE MOUNT.

SHARON AS WAR CRIMINAL
Sharon's recent actions on the West Bank and Gaza constitute ethnic
cleansing, and should be considered a War Crime.
I mean what's good for Slobo should be good for Sharon.
The alienation of the US from World Opinion largely comes from its
unquestioning, and often slaveish, support for the government of
Israel.
Lately, Sharon and the Likud have engaged in reckless activity that will endanger the world at large, and the US and Israel, in particular. This wanton disregard by Sharon, and the Likud, for global peace and security can not go on much longer.
THE MIDDLE EAST WOULD BE A LOT SAFER, AND MORE MANAGEABLE, IF THE US
WOULD CONDEMN SHARON'S POLICIES ON THE WEST BANK AND GAZA;
AND, SUPPORT NEW LEADERSHIP FOR ISRAEL, ONE THAT IS LESS RADICAL
ABOUT THE ANNEXATION OF PALESTINIAN TERRITORY INTO A "GREATER
ISRAEL." AND LESS COMMITTED TO THE SO-CALLED "THIRD TEMPLE MOVEMENT."

Israel's action of killing the Hamas leader today shows just how out
of touch the Israeli Fanatics are.

BUBBA AND THE BIG LIE
I have always been amazed that Republican Lies and Democratic Facts
have "equal footing" in the minds of some less intelligent voters.
These "Bubba Voters" occasionally can't distinguish between truth and
falsehood, because many believe everything they see or hear on TV or
radio.
These are the people who are often right for the wrong reason, or
wrong for the right reason. You probably know the type I'm referring
too?
IN SHORT, BUBBA IS EASY TO CONFUSE. SO HE IS PARTICULALY
VULNERABLE TO THE COMING: REPUBLICAN "BIG LIE" CAMPAIGN.
Consider:
Dubya has run ads claiming that Kerry will raise taxes by 800 Billion
on everyone. Even though there is not one shred of truth to that
claim!
In truth, Kerry has promised to use the old Clinton Era devise of
tackling the deficits by raising taxes on the higher income taxpayers
who benefit most from the current system.
Dubya claims that Kerry has voted "against body armour for soldiers"
and against "health care for veterans." Again totally absurd.
SEE THE PATTERN?
THE REPUBLICAN STRATEGY FOR DEFENDING THE INDEFENSIBLE SEEMS TO BE TO
RESORT TO THE "BIG LIE" EARLY AND OFTEN.
But will this work?
IF YOU REPEAT FALSEHOODS OVER AND OVER, EVENTUALLY EVEN THE DULLEST

belt;
With all of the predictable economic and geo-political disasters to
prove it!
PERHAPS, IT'S AGAIN TIME TO SERIOUSLY CONSIDER GOING "EXPAT,"
AS "PLAN B."
IN THE EVENT "DUBYA II" IS IN THE OFFING?
Frankly, after Dubya's first term, I can't even imagine what Term Two
would look like!
I mean what's left to loot! Who'se left to invade!

YEAR ONE: BETTER OR WORSE?
The war in Iraq is kind of strange.
The problem is there is a text and sub-text to the entire affair.
OK Saddam is gone. He was holding together an area that had the
potential of falling apart. And, his methods were often brutal.
Now, the US has replaced Saddam. But, for better or worse?
Dubya claims he wants democracy, but he is afraid to let the Iraqi
people vote! Hmmm.....?
Dubya talks of the War on Terror, but he refuses to criticize the
Sharonist brutality against the Palestinians in their "occupied
territories."
Unless and until, Dubya becomes an HONEST BROKER in the Middle East;
all who live there will think of the Dubya and US as merely a Zionist
Tool!
And, that's really the problem isn't it?
That's really the unspoken sub-text of everything we say and do about
the Middle East.
IF DUBYA'S GOAL IS TO ESTABLISH A "PRO-LIKUD" GOVENRMENT IN IRAQ AND
AFGHANISTAN?
THEN THIS WAR IS LOST!
WILL ANY "DEMOCRATIC" IRAQI GOVERNMENT HAVE TO BE BY DEFINITION "PRO-
ISRAEL AND ANTI-PALESTINIAN STATEHOOD?"

Most Americans are totally ignorant of the "Third Temple Movement" in
Israel and among the religious right in the US.
As a result, Americans are told, Muslims want to "kill us because we
are good." Or because, "They hate democracy."
And, most Americans believe it. They have little access to the other points of view. Even Euroland has a more "enlightened" view about the big picture in the Middle East.
But, does this seem rational to "blacked out" Americans?
THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT IF THE WEST BANK AND GAZA WERE SUDDENLY

PPI HOSTAGES RELEASED!
The PPI hostages were released today, and they tell a dismal tale.
The notion that a weaker dollar is harmless is starting to fail. Gasoline prices are soaring and $2.00 gas seems inevitable! Dubya should note that $2.00 gas would hurt his standing with those NASCAR dads he relies on so much.
Virtually every commodity is up big. Alas, poor Gold has been a lagger, but probably only because of central bank hanky-panky.
Still if they play games with gold, buy silver or copper!
Even yesterday, during the big rally with "proxy stocks" like Yahoo and CAT soaring, golds were down.
Not today!

JOURNAL RAINS ON SPAIN
Just a few days ago, the Wall Street Journal was lashing at Mr. Kerry
for having a "shadow foreign policy," BEFORE BEING ELECTED PRESIDENT!
Now, the Journal says that since Kerry COULD BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT;
He needs to elaborate MORE on how he will handle Spain, Europe and
Foreign Policy in general!
Go Figure! Make up your mind over there at the WSJ!
Anyway;
What the Spanish election REALLY shows is that it's political suicide
to follow a policy that 90% of the electorate oppose!
AND THAT'S ALL!
The Spanish electorate realized that Iraq was not the real terror
threat, and that by going into Iraq the entire region would become
destabilized on very unpredictable ways.
And, of course, the Spanish people were absolutely right!
DUBYA IS NOW ESSENTIALLY CLUELESS ABOUT "WHAT NEXT" IN IRAQ!
IT'S ALL AD HOC, AND KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED! HARDLY THE STUFF OF
SO-CALLED LEADERSHIP!
Exactly who came up with this odd idea that Dubya is a "great leader"
has me baffled.
I mean this guy can barely bark out simple slogans, and perhaps read
an occasional paragraph that someone else writes for him.
Dubya has been an intellectual vacuum at nearly every level. If this
is the stuff of "Global Leadership," then I'm seriously missing
something.
And a lot of people in Euroland seem to see it my way.
THAT'S WHY EUROPE AND MOST OF THE WORLD IS TURNING AWAY FROM THE
DUBYA AND THE NEOCONS!
IT'S NOT ANTI-AMERICANISM, IT'S ANTI-DUBYAISM! ANTI-NEOCONISM!
But, to be more constructive, if Kerry wants to articulate a policy
that will pass muster at the WSJ, he should simply say;
IF I AM PRESIDENT, AMERICA WILL PARTNER WITH THE WORLD AGAINST
TERRORISM.
AND, WE WILL SEEK TO RESOLVE GLOBAL PROBLEMS BY NEGOTIATION FIRST,
AND MILITARY FORCE LAST.
PREEMPTIVE FORCE IS NOT A JUSTIFICATION FOR "OPTIONAL WAR."
(Dubya shares Sharon's notion that the only Good Muslim is a Dead
Muslim, and that is really at the core of the whole geo-political
mess, even if we can't, or won't, admit that in public.)
INDEED, SOLVE THE ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN DISPUTE AND YOU WILL SOLVE 90%
OF WHAT AILS THE MIDDLE EAST.
YET, DUBYA AND THE AMERICAN MEDIA ARE TREATING SHARON'S CURRENT "FUN
AND GAMES" IN GAZA AND THE WEST BANK "AS IF" THEY ARE TOTALLY
SEPERATED FROM THE LARGER PROBLEM OF GLOBAL TERROR.
If Kerry were courageous he would say:
US HEALTH CARE COSTS AND AN INTERNATIONALLY ENFORCED WEST BANK PEACE
ARE GOING TO BE "JOB ONE" OF MY ADMINISTRATION IN THE FIRST HUNDRED
DAYS!
Then, the Journal's premonition of a Kerry Presidency would be
prophetic indeed!
Alas, leaving Dubya, the NeoCons, that other geo-political clown,
Berlusconi, on the scrap heap of history.
Postscript: It would be "nice" if the Journal tried to be part of
the solution instead of becoming part of the problem with it's recent
sniping and bitterness about the sad state of American foreign policy.

that will pass muster at the WSJ, he should simply say;
IF I AM PRESIDENT, AMERICA WILL PARTNER WITH THE WORLD AGAINST
TERRORISM.
AND, WE WILL SEEK TO RESOLVE GLOBAL PROBLEMS BY NEGOTIATION FIRST,
AND MILITARY FORCE LAST.
PREEMPTIVE FORCE IS NOT A JUSTIFICATION FOR "OPTIONAL WAR."
(Dubya shares Sharon's notion that the only Good Muslim is a Dead
Muslim, and that is really at the core of the whole geo-political
mess, even if we can't, or won't, admit that in public.)
INDEED, SOLVE THE ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN DISPUTE AND YOU WILL SOLVE 90%
OF WHAT AILS THE MIDDLE EAST.
YET, DUBYA AND THE AMERICAN MEDIA ARE TREATING SHARON'S CURRENT "FUN
AND GAMES" IN GAZA AND THE WEST BANK "AS IF" THEY ARE TOTALLY
SEPERATED FROM THE LARGER PROBLEM OF GLOBAL TERROR.
If Kerry were courageous he would say:
US HEALTH CARE COSTS AND AN INTERNATIONALLY ENFORCED WEST BANK PEACE

Then, the Journal's premonition of a Kerry Presidency would be

GREENSPANOMICS, OR THE BIG RAT HOLE THEORY!
Greenspan has a new mojo! DEBT IS GOOD! TAXES ARE BAD!
Or, at least DEBT is infinitely "sustainable" under our new global
economic system of risk.
It is reported that Greenspan is now less concerned about the
deficits than about tax increases. Indeed, he wants more tax cuts as
per Dubya's plan, even if debt balloons at all levels.
SO, HAS MR. G FINALLY GONE AROUND THE BEND?
Well, if I were running things both Mr G and Dubya would be required
to have some "congnitive testing" done to see if they are "compos
mentis" for high stress jobs! But fortunately, I'm not running
things!

Will we see a Republicans for Kerry movement before November?
IT COULD HAPPEN!
DUBYA & CHUMS ARE REALLY TRYING TO DEFEND THE INDEFENSIBLE!
The recent ad blitz by Dubya shows just how shallow and weak his
campaign will be.
For example, the notion that Kerry will RAISE TAXES 900 BILLION
DOLLARS, is just absurd. IN TRUTH, 900 Billion is the supposed cost
of National Health Care that the Democrats are seeking, and that
money can be raised any number of ways. Like by not invading any
more countries unilaterally!
Worse yet, by highlighting that 900 billion number, Dubya's handlers
place EMPHASIS on the total lack of a health care plan by Dubya & Co.
The notion that Kerry is "soft on terror" is equally absurd. The
Democrats are merely trying to avoid a right wing police state
mentality from taking root in the US.
IF THESE ARE THE BEST "CHEAP SHOTS" THAT DUBYA HAS, WE COULD SEE A
REPUBLICANS FOR KERRY MOVEMENT DEVEOLPING SOON!
Dubya's Presidency has been such a disaster on every front that I
would not be surprised if some Republican Newspapers "excused and
thanked Mr. Bush for his service" and then endorsed Kerry.
THE ECONOMY AND JOBS ARE IN FREE FALL.
INTERNATIONALLY, DUBYA HAS ALL OF THE APPEAL OF SHARON AND HIS LIKUD
PARTY TO THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY. Yea, it's that bad!

THE RECENT UNPLEASANTNESS
I was away from my computer during the recent market unpleasantness, but that is probably a good thing.
Because, at no time did I think that this was "the big one."
Indeed, the need for a short sharp drop was obvious, if for no other reason that to give the market masters a chance to build in some "inventory."
The big run in bonds was interesting though.
Could the BOJ know something that we don't?
Well, it's very possible that the US economy is alot weaker than the US media is willing to admit. And the BOJ knows this!
JOBS ARE SIMPLY A DISASTER IN THE US, AND THAT IS NOT, I REPEAT NOT, GOING TO CHANGE ANY TIME SOON.
SO, MY SCENARIO WHEREIN STOCKS, BONDS, GOLD AND OIL ALL GO UP AT ONCE IS STILL INTACT.
PROVIDED HOWEVER, ONLY AS LONG AS THE DOLLAR CONTINUES DOWN!
How so?
OK, punk jobs forever mean low rates forever, right? Humor me, OK, yes!
And, that means the US bond could go up even more, perhaps a lot more.
Indeed, I would bet that Mr G's next big move will be to LOWER RATES, NOT RAISE THEM!
ALL GOOD FOR BONDS! EVEN NOW!
As punk as all this gloom is for the economy, and the stocks that float above it.
IT DOES NOT DOOM STOCKS PER SE! Why? Well, stocks only reflect the economy is a relative sense. Relative to what is the real question, and I say the answer is real interest rates.
SO STOCKS WILL RISE IN THE COMING DOWN ECONOMY, BECAUSE INTEREST RATES WILL BE SO LOW!
It's that old "no where else to go" argument yet again.
But, as stocks go up, the dollar continues down, so net-net to the outside observer, US stocks are going nowhere!
And, with all of the liquidity tied up in the financial markets, very little inflation is possible;
With the exception of our beloved asset inflation and alas, that does include Gold and Oil, sooner or later. Mr G is hoping for later!

US JOBS ON THE PILL!
Everyone talks about US jobs "going over seas."
Or US jobs that are "lost" to cheap foreign workers.
Some economists say this "JOB LOSS" is insignificant.
Even Greenspan debunks the notion that US jobs are MIGRATING EN MASSE!
But consider:
THEY MAY BE RIGHT!
IT'S NOT THE JOBS THAT ARE LEAVING!
IT'S THE JOBS THAT ARE NOT BEING CREATED!
THE US LABOR MARKET IS NOT "LOSING" JOBS AS MUCH AS IT IS NOT
CREATING JOBS IN THE FIRST PLACE!
That's were the big "mystery" of this "recovery" will ultimately be
found.
Jobs are not DYING! Jobs are not being BORN!
AND IT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE THE WORLD!
Clearly, the focus of the GLOBAL ECONOMY is no longer on the US.
China and India are the new darlings of capital and they are where
the NEW INVESTMENTS are going in huge amounts.
YET MANY ECONOMISTS IN THE US ARE STILL TRYING TO "FIND" THE JOBS
THAT ARE "LEAVING,"......GO FIGURE!
And surprize, not finding mass migration are then saying: NOTHING IS
WRONG!

Some economists say this "JOB LOSS" is insignificant.
Even Greenspan debunks the notion that US jobs are MIGRATING EN MASSE!
But consider:
THEY MAY BE RIGHT!
IT'S NOT THE JOBS THAT ARE LEAVING!
IT'S THE JOBS THAT ARE NOT BEING CREATED!
THE US LABOR MARKET IS NOT "LOSING" JOBS AS MUCH AS IT IS NOT
CREATING JOBS IN THE FIRST PLACE!
That's were the big "mystery" of this "recovery" will ultimately be
found.
Jobs are not DYING! Jobs are not being BORN!
AND IT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE THE WORLD!
Clearly, the focus of the GLOBAL ECONOMY is no longer on the US.
China and India are the new darlings of capital and they are where
the NEW INVESTMENTS are going in huge amounts.
YET MANY ECONOMISTS IN THE US ARE STILL TRYING TO "FIND" THE JOBS
THAT ARE "LEAVING,"......GO FIGURE!
And surprize, not finding mass migration are then saying: NOTHING IS
WRONG!

WILL IGNORANCE PREVAIL?
The American political universe seems to be divided into two parts,
those who realize that Dubya is an idiot, and those who don't.
Or, between the enlightened few, and the ignorant many.
Over the weekend I was at a family gathering that included a cross
section of "middle class" voters. Most were church going NASCAR
types who voted for Dubya in the last election.
AND I WAS SHOCKED AT HOW UNREPENTANT MOST OF THEM ARE!
These Dubya voters are an odd lot. They are middle class
professionals mostly. Managers, CPAs, teachers etc.
As a rule they are very, very uninformed about "world affairs" or
current events.
They do not read ANY newspapers, or even watch cable "talk news."
They MAY be able to parrot an occassional sound bite from the network
news shows;
IF AND ONLY IF, it concerns them directly in some way.
But mostly TELEVISION is all sports, and all "fluff," all the time.
You know the type? ALAS, THEY ARE LEGION!
AND, AS FAR AS THE NYT OR WSJ OP-ED PAGE? FORGET ABOUT IT! THAT'S
TOTALLY TERRA INCOGNITA TO THEM!
I WOULD CALL THEM MIDDLE CLASS IDIOTS, BUT others CALL THEM
NASCAR DADS and SOCCER MOMS.
What will it take to get these people to realize that Dubya and Chums
are destroying their futures and the futures of their children?
Well, some of them ARE CONCERNED that their children have dismal job
prospects. And, some are trying to "get smarter" so they can "play
the markets" better.

MARKET STIFF UPPER LIP
After an appauling week of economic news, the market starts with a stiff upper lip, and trys to define a NEW REALITY for the coming months.
Today's WSJ says that the tech run is over, and people will go back to plain vanilla dividend paying stocks. Well, maybe for a few days, or even a week. But plain vanilla is not what Wall Street is all about these days.
The JOBS DEBACLE is serious and needs a total re-think of policy. Of course, the street is not real big on total re-thinks.
So, the course of least resistance is more of the same.
If rates are low INTER-GENERATIONALLY as I predict, then the dollar is prone to weakness, UNLESS THE MARKET BOOMS ON HIGHER BONDS AND LOWER RATES.
Thats today's mojo.
Even golds are weaker on this reasoning.
STILL, THE TRADE DEFICIT IS ON DECK......AND THE WEAKER DOLLAR IS A GIVEN.
SO, BUY GOLD ON WEAKNESS SEEMS A NO-BRAINER.
MY HUNCH IS THAT THE "SPECULATING CLASSES" WILL CONTINUE SPECULATING NO MATTER WHAT THE ECONOMY OR JOBS DO.

ASHCROFT'S KINGDOM HOSPITAL
While Ashcroft is recovering in Kingdom Hospital for Pancreatistis,
he should consider the plight of the tens of millions of uninsured
Americans for whom his condition would probably be FATAL!
Being a compassionate Christian, I should Mr. Ashcroft would agree.
Because;
Even as the political elite get the best treatment that taxpayer
money can buy, millions of ordinary people have to file bankruptcy
to "pay" their medical bills. Or just do without!
And, indeed, many Doctors are now going bankrupt, rather than pay
outrageous malepractice insurance premiums demanded by Wall Street's
darlings of "pricing power" the insurance companies!

ALAS, POOR MARTHA
This jury was particularly brutal to Martha....perhaps, some
investors from the bubble days?
Still, Martha's long time connection to Wall Street could have been a
factor. She's no spring chicken on investment law.
And, perhaps the circumstantial evidence outside of Doug's testimony
was compelling.
THIS VERDICT SHOULD STRIKE FEAR IN THE HEARTS OF THE OTHER "PERP
WALKERS" OF LATE!
You never can tell about juries. My hunch is that one or two people
lead the jury deliberations, and pretty much control the rest.
I have never served on a jury. Although I have "waited for verdicts"
many times. And, I can tell you that it is PURE HELL! You walk
around but dare not leave the premises.....nervous conversation,
secret questioning and second guessing........then a strange stirring
in chambers.....is this it?
The bailiff comes out and says: "They have a verdict." Your stomach
drops like on a ferris wheel.....
You watch the jurors.....my God, they are all so grim faced and
looking down! None of them look directly at you! They look so sad!
God! Why aren't they laughing and smiling like they are supposed to
if it's to be Not Guilty?
Something is wrong! Something is terribly wrong!
The judge enters, and says will the foreman rise....you heart is
pounding in your ears..................................
Well;
there is a sense of relief went the case is FINALLY out of your
control, and there is NOTHING you can do about it anymore.
I've won some and lost some.
And, I know what Martha is going though tonite.
Anger, Rage, Loathing, Blame......all coming at once. I would have
had her testify! Damn it!
Perhaps, a bottle of wine, or maybe two.....?

THE POLITICS OF 911
Ouch! The early reaction to Dubya's political ads containing 911
images was BRUTAL!
The families of the victims are up in arms about using their loved
ones as political props! And, I don't blame them.
Now, if Dubya can't use 911. And, he obviously can't use the
economy. Or jobs. Or Health Care. Or foreign policy. Or the Middle
East.
WHAT'S LEFT?
WELL, THERE IS ALWAYS GAY BASHING!

Seperately, I think it is a big mistake to hold the Republican Convention in New York City this year.
There are liable to be BIG DEMOSTRATIONS by the anti-Dubya forces both foreign and domestic;

If you needed further proof of the "Commoditization of Knowledge" you
need only go to Tom Friedman's "prose poem" about outsourcing to
India in today's NYT!
CLEARLY, WE ARE NOW AT THE BEGINNING OF A GREAT "RE-THINK" ABOUT THE
ECONOMY, SOCIETY AND POLITICS AS WE HAVE KNOWN IT.
Yeah, I know that's a pretty heavy thought right now; but it's also
very likely true.
To get in the mood for this, I recently pulled down Hayek's 1944 book
THE ROAD TO SERFDOM; to see if I could find out how the Road to
Serfdom became the Information Super Highway we have today.
In Hayek's book the BIG IDEA is the great fight between PLANNED
ECONOMIES and FREE OR LIBERAL ECONOMIES.
Hayek uses the word "liberal" in the 18th Century sense meaning
personal liberty or "individualism." Verus say, "collectivism."
TODAY, 60 YEARS AFTER THE PUBLICATION OF THE ROAD TO SERFDOM, WE SEEM
TO BE REVISITING THE PROBLEMS DESCRIBED IN HAYEK'S BOOK.
Here's the problem:
Clearly, the Germans and the Russians botched "collectivism" and
planned economies big time.
If the notion of "planned economies" rested solely on the policies of
Hitler and Stalin; NO ONE WOULD EVER ARGUE FOR CENTRAL PLANNING AGAIN.
But, here's the problem;
HAYEK'S UNPLANNED, LIBERAL OR "FREE MARKET" ECONOMIES ALLOW CAPITAL
TO "WIN BY DEFAULT!"
THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF THE CONSERVIATIVE "FREE TRADE" ARGUMENT; IT IS
ESSENTIALLY PUTTING CAPITAL IN CONTROL "BY DEFAULT." BECAUSE WITHOUT
PLANNING, OR AT LEAST SOME CONTROLS, CAPITAL EVENTUALLY TAKES OVER
EVERTHING. IT'S SORT OF THE "LAW OF NATURE" FOR THIS TO HAPPEN.

I have suggested that soon to be PRESIDENT KERRY will be given a rare
ROOSEVELT MOMENT;
Where he can SAVE CAPITALISM YET AGAIN---as indeed, Roosevelt did
back the the 1930's.

PERHAPS NATIONAL HEALTH CARE WILL SAVE 21ST CENTURY CAPITALISM?

KNOWLEDGE IS A COMMODITY!
It came to me last night, in a dream, or something like a dream, a
sudden flash of insight.
(Damn, that's been happening a lot lately!)
Still, sleep is a great time to do problem solving.
I mean consciousness takes up soooo much "bandwidth!" And, there's
only so much CPU to spare, when you're driving in traffic and
drinking a cup of Starbucks at the same time!
Suddenly, at 3AM, my eyes snapped open! Eureka! I've found it, said
I.
Suddenly, there was the urge to run up and down the street "bare ass"
as it where. But, maybe not.
So, I grabbed a book and started to read, which, at night, almost
always has an effect on me similar to what medical science
calls "narcolepsy."
Yet, for hours I could not get it out of my mind!
KNOWLEDGE HAS BECOME A COMMODITY!
All this drivel about the SMOKE STACK ECONOMY, and the KNOWLEDGE
ECONOMY is just wrong!
KNOWLEDGE HAS BECOME MORE OF A COMMODITY THAT OLD FASHION COMMODITIES
EVER WHERE!
OK, bear with me here......;
KNOWLEDGE IS INFINITELY REPRODUCABLE! After all, it is only
an "abstraction."
TO TRAIN COMPUTER SCIENTISTS ALL YOU NEED ARE BOOKS AND MAYBE A FEW
TEACHERS. THEN BAM! IN A FEW MONTHS, THE FLOOD GATES OPEN, AND
YOU'VE GOT COMPUTER SCIENTISTS AND ENGINEERS OUT THE WAZOO!
That's what happen in India and China, and even in Russia.

decided to turn out cheerleaders and football players! Right? It's
a "culture thing."

THE CENTRAL BANKS ARE TURNING OUT PAPER MONEY EVEN FASTER THAN INDIA
CAN TURN OUT SCIENTISTS AND ENGINEERS!
And, that's really pretty scary! Agreed?

Krugman's NYT column today about Greenspan!
Yikes!
Krugman calls Greenspan everything but a Central Banker!
From complaining about the excess surplus, Greenspan has now gone to
cutting Social Security, and cutting taxes on the rich even further!

RIGHT ON! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Yikes!
Krugman calls Greenspan everything but a Central Banker!
From complaining about the excess surplus, Greenspan has now gone to
cutting Social Security, and cutting taxes on the rich even further!
VIVA LA KRUGMAN!
RIGHT ON! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
And, I suggest that the NYT read Tom Friedman the RIOT ACT, and get
him off the "neocon" track before it's too late!
Seperately, did you happen to catch Greenspan's speech in NYC today?
While their "master" spoke, the assembled crowd gnawed conspicuously
on "rubber chicken" from the banquet! Pleaseeeee.....people.
Mr G is not a "piano player" providing background noise, while you
butter your buns!
Just such an embarassment....really.

IT'S OFFICIAL! COLLEGE IS BAD FOR YOU!
Consider this quote from cnnfn:
"While almost everyone agrees that U.S. grade-school education could
be better, some critics doubt education is the only answer to

SO? GO TO COLLEGE AND JOIN THE RANKS OF THE UNEMPLOYED!
Everyone knows that the real test of "employability" is the ability
to WORK CHEAP! And, it helps to show up on time and be reasonably
sober.
SO WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL SPENDING A FORTUNE TO GO TO COLLEGE, AND
BECOME ESENTIALLY "UNEMPLOYABLE!"
What Dubya and Greenspan et al, have been talking about lately is
improvment in grade school and community college education, NOT
UNIVERSITY LEVEL EDUCATION WHERE THERE IS ALREADY A BIG GLUT!
The Republican notion of a "good worker" is someone who is CLEAN AND
SOBER AND WORKS HARD FOR LITTLE MONEY!
NO WONDER ALL THE JOBS ARE GOING TO CHINA AND MEXICO AND OTHER PLACES
WHERE PAUPERS ARE THE PREDOMINANT POPULATION!
IN AMERICA TODAY, NO AMOUNT OF EDUCATION CAN SAVE YOU!
YOU BETTER "KNOW SOMEONE" OR "KNOW SOMEONE WHO KNOWS SOMEONE" IF YOU

MORE MALL TIME?
Today's "numbers" show that Americans consider a job-loss to be just
an excuse to spend more time at the mall!
Or, maybe do that "re-fi," or a little daytrading!
Somehow, all the "bad news" isn't translating into the markets.
Probably, because of the 1% interest rates, which can put a lot of
lipstick on the pig! You would agree.
Still almost ANYBODY can make money in stocks these days. It always
goes up, as they say. And, that could give people more courage to
run down their bank accounts and/or run up their credit cards!
Also January and February are GREAT SALE MONTHS for shoppers. Kohl's
is just giving the stuff away, in case you haven't been there
recently.
SO, IT'S SAME OLD, SAME OLD, IF YOU CAN'T SPEND INCOME, SPEND ASSETS
AND EQUITY!
It's also a good time to stick some Euros in the sock drawer, if
you're planning a European Vacation this year.
The ECB is not going to join Alan in the One Percent Club anytime soon. But, with all of the success they've had lately with "jawboning;" why should they!
THE BIG KAHUNA THIS WEEK IS THE JOBS NUMBER ON FRIDAY!
A REALLY BAD NUMBER COULD LOSE THE ELECTION FOR DUBYA STRAIGHT AWAY!
I doubt that a really good number is possible because it's just not
showing up anywhere else.
SO, MY HUNCH IS ANOTHER AMBIGUOUS NUMBER: Maybe, the econ boys and
girls will get it right for once at 125,000? But I wouldn't be
surprised to see, say 40,000 to 80,000; STILL it's all so subjective!
Are these temps, or burger flippers?
Or is more "productivity" on the way;
With all of the "hiring" being done in foreign countries; LIKE INDIA!

MY DEFENSIVE PORTFOLIO HAS BEEN DOING WELL DURING THE RECENT
NAZZ TROUBLES. AND, GOLDS FREQUENTLY "SAVE THE DAY."
THERE SEEMS TO BE A SUB-ROSA QUEST FOR "HARD ASSETS" HIDDEN IN HERE
SOMEWHERE.
SO, PERHAPS SOME PEOPLE ARE MIGRATING AWAY FROM THE OLD HOTTIES;
AND, BACK INTO THE PRE-ONE PERCENT "DEFENSIVE STUFF?"
EVEN YEILD INVESTMENTS ARE HOLDING UP SOMEWHAT BETTER THAN EXPECTED.
WELL, AT LEAST "THEY" AREN'T RUSHING INTO CASH;
......yet.
