A lot of people don't like a black background... It's to "artsy"...or too different from the usual "clones" you see on the web these days.
I've had different backgrounds over the years...but, I find the black background works fairly well...it's harder to read in bright light...but is great in a dark/dim room or at night...

MARKETS RUNNING PILLAR TO POST...
Best to just forget about it...until after Labor Day when the grow-ups are back at their desks...
ONLY AN OIL EMBARGO WILL SOBER ISRAEL UP...

And that's because Israel will not level with the world abouts it's real ambitions on the West Bank and in Gaza...
So, everything just spins in the wind...
The Arabs know whats going on...and also the Europeans...but the American public is kept deliberately in their "news ghetto" regarding the true facts about the West Bank and Gaza.
This was all OK until the US started farming out it's middle east policy to the Israel right wingers...like the Likudnics...who wanted and got regime change in Iraq and now are clamoring for more regime change in Iran
So now, the US is mired in middle eastern "occupations" in much the same way that Israel is...but with no clear goals to justify this involvment...other than to "support Israel."
At least Israel knows what it wants... to wit: THE WEST BANK AND GAZA!
For Americans, the goals are less clear... Perhaps, we want to "Steal their oil?" Or "liberate their women?" or "to democratize them?"

If a slow economy is good for stocks then Wall Street will be very happy for the next few months... Because this economy is dead in the water as far as I can tell.
All the bubbles are collapsing at once...Stocks lack credibility. Bond yeilds are too low. Real Estate is completely off base. Jobs and wages are punk. And many parts of the globle are eating our lunch nowadays.
Let the slow down begin... But sooner or later Wall Street is going to have to come to it's senses...
But alas, not during the Dog Days of Summer... Give it a week...Labor Day will be a water shed event...

The FED minutes are rather long this time...and show considerable disagreement as to what is needed.
Everyone agrees that the economy is cooling...but in an environment where stagflation is possible...merely cooling the economy does not automatically stop inflation.
While the consumer is slowing due to higher rates, and higher gas prices, and collapsing real estate values;

My bet is on the Arabs. Unless Israel can reproduce faster than the surrounding Arab population...their Right to Exist may be allowed--even as their Need to Exist goes down the tubes...along with their Will to Exist.

With the Dow at a three month high...it could be a short play.
The economic numbers simply will not be that good going forward...
The real estate market is like someone cried fire in a crowded theatre...everyone is heading for the exits all at once... Many "flippers" are getting flipped by their mortgages.
And the ARM crowd and other "creative" financiers of real estate are only now starting to realize the magnitude of their problems.
The doors to the bankruptcy courts have been nailed shut by the Republican K-Street Kongress...so the banks have the American Debtor trapped like a rat.
And I simply don't believe any "positive" spin coming out of Walmart or any of the other corporations that are dependant on spending by "ordinary" Americans.
The jobs number will be punk again...the only question is how punk... Everyone knows there are no "real jobs" out there... And huge numbers of people are dropping out of the labor market because of it.

AND THAT IS A PRETTY GLOOMY SCENARIO...
But there is hope.
My hunch is that once the Democrats sweep the November elections AND take back BOTH THE HOUSE AND SENATE there will be a sense of relief and revival that FINALLY "the grown-ups" will be replacing the "the greed-mongers."
And that our long nightmare of Republican suffering will be coming to an end...and the looting of the economy will at last stop.
Not that the looting will end in November...we still have to suffer through ever more "Bushisms" for a couple more years...but the DIALOGUE will change to the REAL ISSUES!
AND MERCIFULLY AWAY FROM THE CONSTANT STREAM OF "WEDGE ISSUES" THAT THE REPUBLICANS HAVE BEEN RELYING ON FOR THESE MANY YEARS.

WILL APPLE BE DELISTED...?
I mentioned here serveral times that I never trusted Apple as a company... And the fact that they are now risking delisting the stock for failure to file necessary forms, only makes me even more suspicious of whats really going on over there...
LONDON "TERROR PLOT" WILL BE DISMISSED
The way the London "terror plot" was advertized during the recent "war" sounded like the British actually caught someone red handed...at the airport and ready to fly.
Now, it's starting to look like just another one of those "all talk no action" cases...
The War Planners, Dubya, Tony and Olmert, needed a quick and dirty "distraction" a few days ago...to cover-up the fact that their "game plan" for Lebanon and Hezbollah was failing miserably.
(Enter the "Terror Plot" stage right...)
And all the talk about "ten planes" (honest count 'em..ten) and some mysterious "liquids" provided the "aura of a plot," without actually producing any evidence.
And there still seems to be a total lack of hard evidence...even while the police comb the fields for "clues." As if this were a crime of passion...and not an "organized" conspiracy...with a known set of actors.
So my hunch is that the London "terrorists" will be released with an apology...or they will be charged with something totally unrelated to any actual "terrorism"... like sending money to the "wrong group" or traveling for "training" or some other such ambigous conduct....
The notion that the Brits are "above" providing Dubya & Co with "talking points" and a headline "as needed" seems a bit incredible...after all both Tony & Dubya are in over their heads for supporting Israeli War Crimes against Lebanon...and an ASAP change in the "news cycle" was needed quickly...
Tony is a fast learner apparently...

The world is surely NOT safer from "terrorism" now than it was before the Israel outrage in Lebanon... Indeed, the Arab Street is boiling and "moderate" Arab governments are being force to take anti-American positions on the crisis.

STEP AWAY FROM THE SHAMPOO BOTTLE...
This flap over airline carry ons is yet more nonsense from the clueless incompetents in charge...
Consider:
Nothing in the cargo hold of the plane is x-rayed or check for explosives...
And with the experience that Osama's trainees now have with "IEDs" in Iraq... Placing such a remote controlled devise in "checked baggage" would seem to be a no-brainer...
But no...some London teenage Muslims come up with "mixing liquids" and now everyone is punished...
And why not use the "anal cavitiy" to "hide" a plastic explosive... The terrorist simply waits till the plane is in the air, then goes to the toilet in the back...and well, you get the picture... Maybe the next "security measure" will be to take the doors off the planes tiolets and have a gaurd watching you...!
And NO I'm not "giving anyone ideas"...this has all been talked about in the mainstream media...indeed on NPR recently Diane Rehm mentioned the "body cavitiy" notion herself! Not something your expect to hear from her!

The Big Push by Israel into South Lebanon will present Hezbollah with irresistable "target practice" for their fighters... So I give the "ceasefire" about 12 to 24 hours to hold... In fact it's possible that the fighting will not stop at all!
Israel is trying to take over the south of Lebanon; and it is VERY unlikely that Hezbollah will sit by and let this happen...
Israel is pouring troops into Hezbollah's preferred "Kill Zone" in South Lebanon, and that is not a recipe for lasting peace...! It's more like a "re-boot" button for the next phase of the war!
And it is VERY unlikely that Israel went to the trouble of destroying Lebanon's northern infra-structure...IF IT DID NOT INTENT TO OCCUPY THE SOUTH! THINK ABOUT IT...
Additionally, there is really no agreement with Hezbollah about the stopping of the war...
Indeed, Hezbollah says the war has not stopped...!
So, you have to think that Israel will NOT be leaving Lebanon anytime soon.
The only hope is IF Hezbollah makes it clear, within the next 48 hours, that Israel will pay a VERY high price for dragging out their defacto occupation.... And of course Israel still has bitter memories of their last adventure in South Lebanon...
But, the very first Israeli soldier that is killed on Monday will likely "cause" Israel to start bombing again...
Remember, it only took two Israeli soldiers taken prisoner to "start" this war... It will only take one to start it up again.
Israel wants a war with Iran and Syria...and it is not about to let that opportunity pass it by.
The US elections will bring a huge "peace vote" to Washington...these are the final days of Neocon domination of US policy...and Israel knows it!

CEASEFIRE APPROVED...!
With the adoption of a ceasefire at the UN the Israeli War Crimes in Lebanon will stop for the time being...
It is to be hoped that Kofi Anann and others do not forget the brutality and war crimes that the Lebanese people...and indeed the UN suffered at the hands of an out of control Israeli government.
NOW there should be some effort made to try Mr Olmert as a War Criminal.
FURTHERMORE, ISRAEL SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO PAY REPARATIONS TO THE GOVERNMENT OF LEBANON FOR THE EXCESSIVE AND BRUTAL DESTRUCTION OF THE LEBANESE INFRASTRUCTURE... THAT WAS SO UNNECESSARY AND SENSELESS THAT IT ENFLAMED WORLD OPINION EVERYWHERE....EVEN IN THE US WHICH HAS A BIAS AND SLANTED NEWS MEDIA.
